Big Trade involving Utley and Votto (WHIR)

Postby hecrey91 » Sat Aug 07, 2010 12:05 am

12 team H2H 6x6 league (standard plus OPS and K/BB)

He gives me: Chase Utley, Colby Lewis, Felix Hernandez
I give up: Joey Votto, Yovani Gallardo
My Team:
C- Buster Posey
1B- Joey Votto
2B- Casey McGehee
3B- Mark Reynolds
SS- Hanley Ramirez
OF-Carl Crawford
OF-Josh Hamilton
OF-Jose Bautista
UTIL- Torii Hunter
UTIL- Angel Pagan
BN-Jason Heyward
BN- Domonic Brown (gonna be dropped/traded soon)
BN-Jorge Posada (also trying to move him for pitching)
DL- Shane Victorino

SP- Matt Cain
SP- Jaime Garcia
RP- K-Rod
RP-Rafael Soriano
P-Brett Myers
P-Trevor Cahill
P-Mike Leake
P-Yovani Gallardo
BN-Edinson Volquez (giving him a chance for now, if he keeps sucking, will drop come playoff time)
BN-Shawn Marcum
DL- Andrew Bailey

What do you guys think? I'm currently ahead of this team by 3.5 games, next team is 4 games back, fourth place team is 13.5 games back. I feel like my pitching is decent for a 12 team league, but I might want to improve it come playoff time since Utley is supposed to come back the 26th last I saw.

I think the risk that Utley either takes longer than expected to come back, or is not totally right when he does is too high. Players with hand and wrist injuries often seem to have problems with hitting for power when they come back.

I wouldn't make that trade, though it may be the right time to dump Votto: I just got him in a trade last week, so he's due to tank! :-)

Take the deal, utler and felix are the 2 best players in the deal.

I wouldn't. Trading for injured people, no matter how good they are/were, is always a risky thing and Votto is such a consistent player.

Also, I don't see how the person above me says Felix is better than Gallardo. If things keep going the way they are, Gallardo will give you more wins and strikeouts per innings. Lewis is decent as well, but I think trading that much for Utley is risky. Who would you put in 1b if you did do the trade?

I agree with what has been said. First off you have no 1st basemen to backup after trading Votto. Secondly I wouldn't trade for somebody who has been on the DL as long as Utley has and expect him to be the Utley of old right away. The end of the season is getting close can you risk struggling with a 2nd basemen who rides your bench, while you field a backup 1st basemen off the waivers? Third...I think you'll get similar stats out of Felix as you would Gallardo. That part just seems like a wash to me.

Don't give up Votto. Hernandez/Gallardo's actually not a clear win for either side, given the latter's superior strikeout prowess. And Utley's on the DL and may not recover quickly or play as well upon his return. If he was healthy this whole season and producing like his normal self, then this might make a little more sense.

Wrong , what he'd do is move Reynolds to 1b and Bautista to 3b.

What FA are available?

Dominic Borwn should be cut if its a redraft league.

I'd hold onto Votto.
