I have a cherry tree in my backyard. Last year, after eating a couple hundred cherries over about a week, I noticed a worm in one of them. After that I started checking, and at least 50% of them had worms. I'm sure I ate at least 50 worms that week, but they were small, and apparently harmless.
Yeah. It's gross for Westerners like us to eat grubs, and I'm sure some are poisonous or will at least make you a little sick, but tons of cultures eat grubs/bugs/etc every day and they're doing just fine. It's more a sensibility thing than a health thing.
But it was still freaky to see that thing in there. We've bought that brand of rice many, many times. It's just a little disconcerting thinking that that was probably not the first grub I've eaten - just the first I noticed.
