Simple question, please help WHIR

Postby Hit Factory » Thu Aug 05, 2010 4:16 pm

I got fed up with my team and decided to unload most of my players in order to get keepers for next year. Somehow my team has started playing well and I want to be as competitive as possible. The problem is that I have NO closers. I have Uggla-Phillips-Aaron Hill, I was offered:
Chris Perez and Brian Wilson I would have to give up Phillips

What do you think?

That's not bad value. I prefer Phillips to Uggla, so I may counter with an Uggla for Wilson + Perez deal, but it depends on who you prefer going forward. I hate giving up a premier 2B, but you have two and you need closers. Wilson is scoring like one of the best in the league, and Perez will help get you points as well.

A little help with my trade question? Thanks.

Also, for future considerations, you can count on Sabean to not improve the Giants offense (and probably let Huff walk) so Wilson will continue to provide those close game saves. I also prefer Phillips to Uggla, but given that Baker is committed to hitting Phillips leadoff you'll probably get better production out of Uggla this year. If your goal is to win it this year, trade Phillips. If it's just to stay respectable and improve for next year then trade Uggla.

I say go for it. If it doesn't mess up your keepers for next year. You just may get a spark there.

Well, I am not sure of the size of your league, but are there any closers out on the waiver wire right now? There has been a lot of turnover lately (Pit, Bal, Was, etc...) where you may be able to find a few saves on the wire. If so, you may be able to trade a "lessor" player (not sure what your roster is looking like overall) for just Wilson or work a deal for another single top RP while you fish the wire to supplement...
C- Santana
1B - Huff
2B - Wigginton
3B - Longoria

OF - J. Upton

I agree with Galileo.

Maybe look on the WW for help first and trade someone for Wilson. I'm not a big fan of Perez so I myself would be a little scared to give up a big time second baseman for one great closer and one "scary" one.

I would look at Joel Hanrahan if he is available on the WW.

Good Luck!

I pulled the trigger on Uggla for Wilson and Perez. I probably won't finish in the money this year anyway so I really am not too worried about it. I am in a 12 team league and there are no closers available on the WW. I currently have no closers since I dealt them in two seperate trades that netted me Ryan Howard and Braun (two of my three keepers for next season). I don't love Perez either but he will get me some saves and I can deal if he raises my era and whip a bit. I still have Brandon Phillips and Aaron Hill, who is starting to heat up.
