Ive been having trouble with my pitchers consistencies with guys such as Haren and Garza. My pitching needs help and I've been offered this trade:
I give: Aramis Ramirez I get: Barry Zito
I think he realizes my pitching need but I already have Beltre at 3B doing a fabulous job and Ramirez is sitting on my bench. Is Zito consistent enough to help my staff?
Without any more info as to who your replacement would be for Ramirez, I will say don't do this deal. Instead, try for a two for two going for an upgrade at SP.
example:
I just traded Weeks and Garza for Sin Soo Choo and Greinke. Sure there is some risk there, but there always is in trades. I feel I am buying low on Greinke and Choo was a major upgrade for me at RF based on our league cats.
If ARam is just riding the bench, I'd be fine unloading him to help out a weakness. However, you might be able to get more than Zito. What is the other guy's pitching staff? Since he offered, he's likely not going to start off with his absolute best offer. I would likely counter with Ramirez for his next best above Zito.
But if there's no one on his staff anywhere near Zito's value, I'd take the trade. Zito is having an excellent season so far. I think he'll put up pretty good numbers here on out. Ramirez has only had one good streak this year. Other than that, he's been flat-out awful.
The guy has a good pitching staff in: Cliff Lee, Clayton Kershaw, David Price, Barry Zito, Phil Hughes, Josh Beckett.
I don't think he would be willing to give more though... He just shipped out Johan Santana for Polanco+ so he isn't in DIRE need. I have a feeling if I asked for more he would just look elsewhere.
OH and he isn't sitting on my bench at the moment, he is hitting UTIL so I can ride his little hot streak but it seems over..... I can always plug Butler in my UTIL.
If your pitching is that big of an issue, then yes, Zito would be a good addition. I would consider Zito consistent this year. He doesn't exactly rack up the wins, but he usually manges to pitch well in his losses and no-decisions so they aren't too painful. Aramis hasn't been great over the course of the season (although he's had his moments), so I would say that this is pretty fair value. It might be worthwhile to shope Aramis around a little bit (especially to teams in need of a 3B) to see if you could get more value than Zito, but if not, then I don't see an issue with acquring Zito in this deal.
