I got my knee scoped for a sprained/small tear in my mcl. At some point there's tissue fibers torn in bad sprains, not unlike a small partial tear. As young as he is that was probably the best way to make sure there was no damage the MRIs missed that would lead to long-term issues.
That said I'm only speaking from what I heard in my case and what they thought would get me back on the field by the end of the season. I'm not a doctor and know about as much medicine as Jessica Simpson knows football.

On those same lines what is an LCL? I've seen/heard of injuries to the ACL, MCL and PCL, but never heard of an LCL. Where exactly is that located (for any of you medical types that might be on the board)?

Ahh yes... the interwebs....

To be honest I thought that was the acl, not the lcl. Knew where the mcl and pcl were, but didn't realize the acl is kind of overlapping the pcl.
