Theyre calling it a sprain, and not nearly as bad as it looked. While I'm sure he'll be on the DL, he may not be worth dropping yet, if you have a DL spot

It's a strained (partially torn?) lateral collateral ligament which will be repaired. Luckily it is not his ACL.

Carlos Santana (knee) has progressed to to full lower body strength and conditioning.

Santana is now three and a half months removed from surgery to repair the LCL in his left knee. He's scheduled to begin a walk-job program later this week and should begin baseball activities in early January. Barring any setbacks, he should be ready for spring training. One interesting note is that the Indians plan to begin working him in at first base occasionally next season in order to avoid some of the wear and tear of a full schedule behind the plate.

Mucho PT!!! ;-D ;-D ;-D

I think some guys have TJ for what is technically a sprain, but ya definitely rare.

Santana’s knee surgery wasn’t as invasive as teammate Grady Sizemore’s, as he had no fractures or ligament damage inside the knee, only a high-grade sprain of the LCL. He’s currently rehabbing in Arizona and although he might be eased into things at the beginning of spring training, he’s expected to be fine by opening day, barring a setback.

And the Tribe is planning on playing him at 1B a little bit.
