Is this trade fair? WHIR

Postby Badd » Mon Aug 02, 2010 1:37 pm

I am in 5v5 H2H league where the following trade just took place.

Second place team trades: Ryan Franklin and Alexei Ramirez to the Fifth place team for Mark Texeira and Michael Young. My question to you is that is there any way this trade can be called fair? The 5th place team needs saves no doubt, but they both are claiming it's a fair trade and it blows my mind. Would you veto this trade if you had the power, I absolutely hate vetoing any trade, but this just seems so blatant? Thanks and WHIR!

No way thats fair. Id call collusion on that. If you are commish, and have the power to veto, this would be one of the only times Id call for it.

If you think it will swing results of the league in his favor then yeah id proy veto it. But if its a league where everybody knows everybody and the league is competivive and what not, if both parties believe that the trade is fair then let it go. depends on the league and people involved really.

A few years ago I traded drew brees for an upper middle tier rb which i was thin at. Brees was rotting on my bench because i had peyton manning. everybody in the league (whom i know personally) called foul but there was nothing foul about it. yeah i gave up alot for less but it still helped my team. They still bitch about it to this day.

I never said it was fair. but if it helps both teams and they both agree to it then whatever. and 3 championships in 2 years im 25 and have been doing this since ive been 5 but started to really get into it 10 years ago..... A deal does not have to be even to be fair. Its called addition by subtraction. If you are deep at a position and and thin at another....would you not give up a player you were deep at to get better at another position with a lesser player? In my football reference.....yeah i gave up waaaay more but all those points were sitting on my bench. So why not sell him and get somebody that can start for me? C'mon now. Smarten up!. and yeah is the deal veto-able? of course. but you gotta look at the circumstances before you can make an educated decision.

Franklin and Ramirez for Young I think is still a win for the Young side by a nice margin...however, having Tex as a THROW IN, is just stupid. Not only is it bad for the guy (apparently, very dumb guy) losing Tex, but it throws the whole league out of wack. I dont care if it fills a need, closers are minor and can be found anywhere.

Ok so if you need a reliever and you have Teixeira on your bench because you theoretically say have Pujols starting at 1B then it makes perfect sense to try and grab Franklin? Hey, newsflash you can get any reliever in the game for Teixeira so why not pursue Mariano/Broxton/Marmol/Bell?

Just like you trading Brees for a middle of the pack RB ok I get that he's on your bench but that doesn't mean you sell him for a shit RB he doesn't have any less value just because YOU don't necessarily need him so get equal value for him in another position.

Basically if this guy needs saves why would you not go after the best closer(s) in the game. It doesn't make sense. I'd veto it.

there is a big difference between selling a player for less than his value and essentially giving a player away. you can sell a low level tier 1 player for a high level tier 2 player and still consider it a good trade, but to trade a guy who is top 3 in a position for a guy that is a step above waiver fodder is just plain stupid
