Pittsburgh got a pair of guys that are known more for their name value as prospects than their current prospect status (McDonald doesn't actually qualify). I can't remember the issue with McDonald's pitches but he lacks the pitches to carry his MiLB K rate to the majors. combine that with an iffy BB rate and a flyball tendency and you get mediocrity. Lambo has something like a .750 MiLB career OPS as an average (or worse) defensive corner OF'er. I'm not saying it's a bad trade for the Pirates but it's by no means a steal. they did whatthey should be doing. Adding young players to their system and maybe they get lucky and one them improves.

Well yeah, but considering that Dotel is a pretty average MLB reliever, a couple prospects who have even a decent shot at being productive on an MLB level is quite a haul.

All I'm saying is that it isn't a STEEP return for an effective MLB RP'er. Tim Alderson was a STEEP return for Sanchez last year but that was because of his name value and not his actual current prospect status. both of these guys are pretty meh imo, as is this entire trade.
