I am holding out some hope that I see the Red Sox get someone but I am not seeing their names in any of the trade rumors...and we need help...should I be worried that the Sox don't do anything?
If the Padres had been in the toilet, the Sox would probably have pulled together a big package for A-Gonz. Now that that's not happening (and now that Beltre's been so productive at third that you cannot shift Youkilis there to accommodate Gonzalez at 1B), what do they do?
The tricky part for the Sox is that they're not out of it, and would be even closer if injuries hadn't hurt them, but it's not clear that even a significant move would make them better than the Rays or the Yankees. I think it'd be better for them to stand pat or even sell some pieces and play for next year -- even though that's basically impossible to do as Boston.
WHY DON'T THE RED SOX GO AFTER PRINCE FIELDER???????????
with that short porch in right Prince would hit like a thousand-billion homeruns!!! if they want to compete with the Yankee-rays this year they have got to buy a championship and how better to do it than with Prince. Prince would be the reincarnation of Papi in his steroid heyday.. PRINCE WOULD BE TERRIFYING AT FENWAY!!! plus, seriously.. The brewers are stupid. I bet the sox wouldn't even have to clean out the farm to get him. just pick up some contract dollars and throw a mediocre pitcher or two at them..
The Brewers actually think they are in contention right now, and that's why they aren't moving Corey Hart or Prince Fielder... I don't know how they can seriously think that when they are currently 48-55, and 9 games back from the divisional lead and 10 games back from the wild card...
Red Sox looking to make any moves before the deadline?
Does moving into 3rd place count?
ZING!
They've been in 3rd place for a while
As for the Prince Fielder thing, where do they play him? They could "add" Beltre to the deal telling Mil they're getting two picks when he bolts and gets his fat contract, along with a prospect or two, and while Youk can ably handle 3B, I don't think they should be pulling him around anymore. Do they do it 1/2 season and let Ortiz walk mayhaps?
Sucks Casey Kelly can't get them anything good anymore.
