Capps to the Twins

Postby Havok1517 » Thu Jul 29, 2010 10:16 pm

The Twins acquired Capps for Ramos, according to Miller. The deal is done and will be announced tonight or tomorrow.

Look for Storen to close.

I've got Ramos in a league so it's nice to know he's wanted somewhere. I don't know how much PT he'll be able to get with Pudge signed for 2011 and Jesus Flores still around.

Drew Storen. Gas thrower......same draft class or college as Strasburg I believe......

P.S. Awful trade by the Twinkies in my opinion, Ramos has more value then that.

Rotoworld has them splitting, but Storen's the guy to own I think.

Drew Storen-R-Nationals Jul. 30 - 12:14 am et

The Nationals will split ninth-inning duties between Drew Storen, Tyler Clippard and Sean Burnett now that Matt Capps is out of the picture.
Storen has already been labeled the "closer of the future" in Washington and should have a firm grasp on the role by the end of this season, but the Nats are going to ride the hot hand for now. Capps, who collected 26 saves in 30 chances for the Nationals, was dealt to the Twins late Thursday night for catcher Wilson Ramos and left-hander Joe Testa.

Ramos seems like an awful lot to give up for Capps. Rauch wasn't really pitching that badly.

Agreed... the Twins bullpen has always been deep, I wonder who in their organization felt that this would be the piece that put them over the top for this season. I have a feeling it wasn't Gardenhire.

I don't think there's any question that they could have gotten more for Ramos if they shopped him harder (maybe even waiting until the winter meetings). I'm sure there was some consideration given to the fact that they have Mauer locked up long-term, and that Ramos has struggled this season... I guess it's possible that they felt his struggles were only going to continue and that they'd better get something for him before he gets exposed. I'd have a hard time believing that though after all the hype earlier this season and after his AA season.

Good lord though... if Ramos pans out, the Nats future could be looking scary bright with Strasburg, Storen, Harper, and Ramos all being on the roster come 2012. Then again, Harper/Ramos could be complete busts too.

Outstanding move for the Nats. The Nats signed Matt Capps in the offseason when no one really wanted him, and in half a season, they turned him into a very good catching prospect. Well done.
