J.Cueto for J.Chacin (WHIR)

Postby BUCCOFAN » Thu Jul 29, 2010 4:09 pm

I am in a deep 15 team (Fantasy Point) Auction Keeper League, (DEEP ROSTERS) we start 2 players at every position around the diamond, 6 Outfielders and 8 Pitchers, weekly. I am currently in 1st place ahead of the pack, by 500 points. So its comfortable.......but always looking to build and re-tool. Players also have 3 year contracts, then become free agents. Our league obviously is won on solid pitching lots of points there for guys that can pitch......

I GET:
SP - J.Cueto $1 (3) (free agent at seasons end)
- has been really tough of late, is innings pitched a concern, or is this a good rental for me, to target for Chacin? problem is Cueto has won 10 already, what else does he have left in the tank???

I TRADE:
SP - J.Chacin $4 (1) (eligible to be kept for 2 more years @ that price)
- currently in the minors had his cup of coffee, looked good at times, I got high hopes for him but might not be tell next year?

MY CURRENT ROTATION:
P - A.Wainwright $18 (2) (one year left) (STUD)
P - J. Johnson $1 (3) (free agent) (STUD)
P - C.Lee $3 (3) (free agent) (STUD)
P - C.Carpenter $34 (1) (two years left) (SOLID)
P - T.Hudson $3 (2) (one year left) (BEEN SOLID)
P - J.Jurrjens $5 (3) (free agent at seasons end) (GOOD SECOND HALF?)
P - E.Volquez $1 (1) (two years left) (STRUGGLING OF LATE)
P - J.Hammel $6 (1) (two years left) (GOOD DEPTH)

BENCH:
P - D.Bard $1 (1) (looking forward to the offseason and if Papelbon gets moved)

Keep Chacin, I got him in a Dynasty League, Colorado likes him... Cueto is eh for me, never really made me too excited... Good Luck
I guess there was no curse... Boston just sucked for 86 years...

I actually like Cueto here. Remember he was highly touted when he came up a couple of years ago and he is really coming into his own this year. I think Chacin is a couple of years away actually and Cueto will help you more this year. I think he has a lot more to offer the rest of the year.

thanks for your help with mine

This is tough, because I think Cueto would certainly give you a boost over Chacin from here on out and solidify your championship. Chacin isn't quite ready yet, but everything points to him being the future #2 behind Ubaldo. Considering your lead in the league, as well as a potential call-up for Chacin here before too long - I say hold onto Chacin and enjoy his production in a year or so.

Help answer my trade question? Thanks.

I'd probably go with Cueto.

Cueto..love to see you keep Chacin but win it this year..god forbid you get an injury to your pitching after you pass on this.

Thanks for mine!

I really like Chacin. He has a presence on the mound that not many young pitchers have.
Cueto is definitely more valuable RIGHT NOW, but you seem to have this season well under control, and a slight upgrade to 1/8th of your pitching staff isn't going to make or break your championship run.
however once Chacin gets his BBs under control he has a chance to develop into a great pitcher over the next 2 years, long after Cueto is a distant memory for you. He has already proven that he can miss bats and strikeout big league hitters.

btw thanks for your feedback on my Ubaldo trade

UPDATE!!!

Some has stepped up and offered me J.Sanchez (SF)$3 (2) (has a keeper year left over Cueto?

But really I might already have better keeper options left on my roster, so I am wondering who has the better second half (Sanchez or Cueto?)

Thanks

I would go for Cueto for two reasons. One is that I just don't believe Chacin will be a great pitcher down the road, he may be alright, but not a guy who will win or lose a season. Second is that you are winning this year, keep pushing and go after Cueto who will help you win this season.
