Huge deal, need input WHIR FOR SURE

Postby Guzman24 » Thu Jul 29, 2010 1:29 pm

Contemplating offering this massive deal. Partly because I'm trying to win this year and my offence is sputtering and partly because I'm trying to get a bit younger in my keeper league. I'm currently in 1st place up by 6 games but I've kind of gotten luck these past few weeks and my bats have really gone quiet.

We keep 8 each year.

I send: Arod, Utley(DL), Ordonez, Garcia, 1st round pick

I get: Zimmerman, Holliday, Gallardo, Cruz

If he won't go for that I'm going to remove Cruz from the deal along with my 1st rounder.

Would love to year your thoughts on this.

I lose Utley/Arod but gain Zimm/Holliday/Cruz plus with the addition of Gallardo my staff looks pretty much unbeatable.

12 teams H2H 5x5 OBP instead of AVG we keep 8

C Montero
1B Howard
2B Polanco
3B Arod
SS Reyes
OF Kemp,Hart,Gardner
UT Reynolds

SP Price,Johnson,Liriano,Verlander,Garcia
RP Valverde,Street

BN Ordonez,Capps,Volquez,Sanchez,Zito
DL Utley

If you made that deal, would you even keep Cruz or Gallardo? I figured you'd have Zim, Holliday, Reyes, Howard, Kemp, JJ, and Verlander, Gallardo, or Price being the last one.

That I'm not sure of.

I'm just trying to win this season and the loss of Utley for 6 weeks along with Maggs has really hurt my offence. This is a pretty big money league so I'd prefer to worry about my keepers later. The players I don't keep I can try package up in the offseason to improve the 8 guys I do.

Who do you plan on keeping? What are the keeper rules? (contracts, round drafted, etc..) Is a 1st round draft pick really at 9th round pick?

I like the deal. Arod is Arod, but Zim can match must of Arod's numbers. Losing Utley will be tough for this year and going forward. But gaining Cruz, Gallardo, and Holliday is more than worth it.

No rules on keepers, we just keep 8 each year, no restrictions.

I'm really not too sure who I'd be keeping as of now. Obviously losing Utley would be tough but I think if I made the deal my keepers would be:

Howard,Reyes,Zimmerman,Kemp,Holliday,Cruz,JJohnson,Price

Plus I'd still have Liriano, Verlander, Reynolds, Hart, Gardner to try combine with the above keepers and try and upgrade.

I guess I'm just trying to seal the win this year. Some nice cash on the line :)

Even though you might slightly downgrade your keepers, you should definitely make this trade. You're playing to win this year and that deal makes you significantly better. Your keepers are fine anyway and it's really not much of a sacrifice.

Thanks for the help with mine. I agree with the above two posters in that you should definitely attempt to get this deal done. It'll put you in great position to win this year and you'll still be in great shape for the future

I say do it. It will definitely solidify your strong team this year and help you win. And that is why we play fantasy sports...to win, not to rebuild all the time. Worry about your keepers later and offer this trade. ARod is on a decline somewhat and Zimm is almost as good in my opinion. Utley isn't going to help you this year much if any the rest of the way and you get great return. I really love Gallardo and Cruz. Try it and see what happens.

please help

I think you would have to pull the trigger on this. ARod's value will only go down in a keeper league - people's perception still heavily outweighs his actual production, so it's good to capitalize now. You get younger. You lose DL dead-weight in Utley, which will help you win now (he is a great keep though). I love adding Holliday over Maggs, and I like Gallardo a lot. Cruz will be great down the stretch. Losing Utley is the only downside for me, and gaining the others is a definite upside for you.

Good luck, and please help answer my trade question? Thanks.
