if the astros are eating half the salary im good with it. (why i care about how much the phillies spend or dont spend is kind of odd. i guess its mostly because i feel i know the limitations on the total salary spent).
by no means was i saying i prefered happ over oswalt earlier in this thread. i was simply stating that if the astros didnt kick up any money in a deal, it would essentially be happ and 30 mil or oswalt. if im choosing between those two options, im going happ everytime, even though i feel hes a number 3 type at best.
and this trade doesnt really address having to start blanton, kendrick, and/or moyer which is kind of what i wanted the team to focus on (bullpen help would be my obvious number 1 answer).
Jayson Stark is reporting Oswalt will OK the deal...he may just want to be first to report it, who knows?
Funny, Stark was the person saying this trade wasn't happening yesterday.
Verducci was saying it would.
Some people think that Amaro felt he needed to unload Lee on the same day as Halladay because it would be impossible to do so later (perhaps getting better prospects) once the Philadelphia media and fans latched on to the idea of having both aces on the same team.
I'll tell you that the misdirection didn't work on the fans and sports talk radio *gag* has been talking about Lee EVERY day since the trade happened. I know more about that trade and a guy who pitched for the Phillies for 3 months than I know about half my extended family.

Apparently that misdirection did work on some since some feel it was halladay or Lee
The deal is done, tweets Rosenthal. Piecing this together, it appears the Astros send Oswalt and $11MM to the Phillies for Happ, Gose, and Villar, with the Phils potentially adding $1MM to Oswalt's buyout but not exercising his option.
MLB.com and Phillies site official. Oswalt has indeed waived the NTC.

HOUSTON -- Roy Oswalt, one of the greatest pitchers to wear an Astros uniform, is headed to the Philadelphia Phillies.
Oswalt told the Astros on Thursday afternoon he would waive his no-trade clause in order to approve a trade to the two-time defending National League champions, a person close to the negotiations told MLB.com. The two sides were working the final details of the deal, which is expected to be announced today.
