Dunn+ for Billingsley and Franklin (NL only keeper) WHIR

Postby Goatrider » Wed Jul 28, 2010 1:32 pm

Hello everyone!

NL Only. 12 teams. Standard 5X5. 6 player keeper. Must carry 2 C and 5 OF.

C- Jon LuCroy, Thole
1B- Adam Dunn
2B- Rick Weeks
3B- Martin Prado
SS- Hanley Ramirez
CI- Casey MacGehee
MI- Ian Stewart
OF- Marlon Byrd, Justin Upton, Tyler Colvin, Jose Tabata, Fred Lewis
U- Seth Smith
SP- Clayton Kershaw, Jonathan Sanchez, Ted Lilly, JA Happ, Paul Maholom, Edwin Jackson
RP- Francisco Cordero, Octavio Dotel, Sean Marshall
Reserve P- Jason Motte, Brandon Lyon, Hanrahan, Mke Adams (DL)
Reserve Hitters- Jerry Hairston, Bengie Molina

Been in the middle of a trading flurry. Currently we are runaway first in RBI, R, and HR. Have made a run to second in steals and are currently fourth in average (just aquired Prado, Lilly, and Maholom for Glaus, Chapman, and Silva- score!). Our pitching is our weak point. (Just aquired Kershaw and Seth Smith for Cody Ross, Brad Penny, and Barry Enright- super-score!) And we got Dotel for McClouth with Hanrahan of WW if Dotel is traded.

We are second overall and 8 points behind. We are in striking distance for 4 points in saves (the four teams ahead of us have only one closer) and 4-5 points in wins. Also, we could gain 2-3 points in era.

So my thinking goes, take the trade giving our Dunn for his Billingsley and Franklin. We have such a lead in power numbers (almost a 100 lead in HR and RBI) that we can do without Dunn and his average can only hurt us from here on out. We gain a solid B level SP and a third closer almost guaranteeing that major jump in saves. The problem is it looks like it could take another player. 1) do you think the logic is sound and 2) which pitcher would would you look to move with Dunn? WHIR!!!!!

1) good logic

2) I honestly don't think it should take much more. As Dunn has huge value in a NL only league. I probably try to move Malhom or Edwin Jackson. Happ could have a big 2nd half. Does you league count holds? If not Marshall can be moved as well.

well if you're a runaway offensive juggernaught, then the trade does make sense int he NL only spectre. i'd go for it, as the cardinals figure to keep on winning and franklin has been solid, if not spectacular akin to last year / early this year... he'll get his saves.

also i'd be remiss if i didn't point out that it's likely dotel will get traded and you'd be wise to snatch up evan meek and/or joel hanrahan to cover this fact up. if it's a NL only league and you mention these other teams have 1 closer, then i take it meek is eating up innings for someone with a solid ERA/WHIP but some think the pir8s will go to hanrahan cuz HE'S CLOSED FOR THE GNATS.... (/me goes to sleep on that one =)

so yeah, midaswell do it i mean billingsley has been like.... 3.32/1.32 over the last month, tho he does have one egregious 7 ER outing right around that month ago time limit... so well, that trade makes sense, especially if you're a billingsley guy, who over the years has had stretches where he looks like he's a 2nd or 3rd tier elite pitcher, and at other times seems to throw batting practice... obviously all of this is amplified in a NL only league.

so i reckon i'd go for it, just watch ye olde arse on the vaunted pirates closing situation. those ~5-10 saves from here on out could be the difference!

Yes, we picked up Hanrahan right away. Meek has been taken for awhile as it's an NL league. We also got Motte thrown in a trade in anticipation of getting Franklin. So ultimately, we'd have those two closers with their immediate backups- assuming Meek remains the 2 inning guy/potential power starter the Pirates need. But your right, boring :) Thanks for the thoughts.

Id do that trade if I was you in a heartbeat, especially if you have that kind of a lead.... and the possibility of Dunne leaving the National league only makes the trade better for you.

As has been pointed out in earlier posts... Im not a huge Edwin Jackson fan so if adding him in the deal is a necessity I'd sign off on it and hopefully move forward to bigger and better days!!!
