14 team roto keeper, we keep 5 at the cost of their draft round value, standard 5x5 categories.
Trade deadline is coming up, and I'm trying to decide which 5 players I'll keep. I'll list round values next to the players I'm considering (guys like Holliday, Phillips and Ethier are not being considered because they're 1st/2nd rounders).
Right now I'm thinking it'll be Longoria, Posey, Lincecum, Castro, and Bumgarner. But I'm a little hesitant to keep 3 Giants, so I've been seeing what kind of deals I can get for Lincecum. Nothing good enough yet. What do you think?
WHICH 5 TO KEEP?
C - Buster Posey (12) 1B - Derrek Lee 2B - Brandon Phillips SS - Starlin Castro (24) 3B - Evan Longoria (16) IF - Nick Swisher LF - Matt Holliday CF - Adam Jones RF - Andre Ethier Util - Adam Lind (14) BN - Angel Pagan (24) BN - Mike Lowell
SP - Tim Lincecum (5) SP - Javier Vazquez SP - Tim Hudson RP - Heath Bell RP - Jose Valverde RP - Matt Capps P - Gavin Floyd (11) P - Johnny Venters P - Matt Thornton BN - Edinson Volquez BN - Madison Bumgarner (24) BN - Josh Beckett

I think you have the right idea with Longoria, Posey, Lincecum, Castro, and Bumgarner.
BUT what type of player would be available for you to draft in the 1st round? It might be worth it to keep a BPhil, Ethier, or Holliday over Castro if you're going to use your 1st pick to draft worse talent than those three could provide.
I'd have no qualms about keeping 3 Giants, especially what rounds you get to keep them. In a league that doesn't use a middle infielder, I'm not too sure Castro really needs to be on the list. You'll be able to get a decent SS late in the draft anyway; I'm just not sure he's that much of an upgrade over what you'd get if you waited till the end of the draft to get a SS. Now if your league used a middle...

Hmm....interesting. I'm intrigued by castro because of his youth/upside/recent production/round value. If I were to drop Castro, who would be your choice to replace him?
I'd rather not keep Holliday/Ethier at 1st/2nd round value because I know I can redraft them, or players of their caliber, in those rounds next year. Keeping young talent @ bargain round values is a key to success in this league, not only for their inherent value, but also for their significant trade value.
I know he's been terrible so far this year, but Lind @ 14th round value is also a consideration over Castro (24) or Bumgarner (24). Thoughts? I guess it depends on how Lind finishes out the season.
Lind in the 14th should have been a great value, but he's just not getting it done. After 3 starts Volquez isn't looking great but that could change by years end too Castro isn't a bad pick, obviously he's going to be real good; but if he doesn't get to 10 HR or SB is he really going to be that great of a keeper? you only get 5, you'd like them all to be sure things.I have 10 SS's I'd rather have before Castro which means theres 4 owners left to pick. I guess his recent hot streak bumps up his value some; I'm just looking at your leagues starting positions & that downgrades him .
I was offered Verlander (8th) for my Linecum (5th round). I'm a little worried about Timmy considering how he's been performing this year. Is this a wise deal for me future wise?
I would go with Lincecum, Posey, Longoria for sure. I would keep Lind (look at the last few months, much more like last year showing the slow start to be the mirage, rather than last year to be the mirage, power hitting OF/1B at 14th round is a steal.) The question then is Castro or Bumgarner and I would be inclined to think Castro b/c SP are more likely to be inconsistent year to year and even if Castro falls off next year, he fell off at a 24th round value.
