Interesting trade idea..

Postby PensSteelersBucs » Wed Jul 28, 2010 11:54 am

I've been struggling with 2nd base all year, and I think I'm going to offer my DL'ed Jacoby Ellsbury for the DL'ed Dustin Pedroia.

My roster:
C: Santana
1: Tex
2: Hill / B Roberts still on my DL
3: Reynolds
ss: Gonzalez
of: Hunter
of: Kemp
of: Hamilton
Util: Olivo
B: Gardner
DL: Roberts
DL: Ellsbury

I'm not struggling much in the OF so this trade wouldnt hurt me terribly, but when healthy Pedroia should be a huge upgrade at 2nd base. The guy with Pedroia also has Ricky Weeks, and is struggling in the OF, so I feel he would do it. Thoughts?

You can try, but if he rejects an alternative could be the following:

Cut Olivo straight out, move Gardner to UT and just play matchups at 2B with Hill and Roberts. Hill has been swinging the bat well recently, and Roberts is back in the lineup and should be in a groove sometime soon hopefully.

I'd actually be more concerned with SS if I were you. If Gonzalez is your only option, you've been lucky so far, but don't be surprised to suffer down the stretch.
(In reference to an Aaron Hill for David Price swap)

Olivo is the number 2 ranked catcher...

Yes, but why keep a catcher and not play him in your C slot? Almost any position player is better than a C in your UT because they play more. Olivo plays about 4 games a week, and Iannetta gets the other 2. I'd rather have someone in my UT spot that is an every-day starter.

If Olivo is in your C spot, then it's an entirely different story. But a C in your UT spot? No. Unless it's like Mauer and McCann (or something absurd like that).

midaswell go for it, i mean, i dont know when ellsbury comes back but like, odds are that someone like rajai davis is out there and if he gets consistent at bats he's one of the best pure steals guy in the game, IMHO. i confess to being a rajai shill as i like him on facebook, but like, i have ellsbury listed as a wash for this year and even if he comes back i dont think you're gonna necessarily have the 80 steals guy... overall, i'd project pedroia to have better #s. and since he's DL'd anyways, you could play with your aaron hill / b-rob setup.

aaron hill, btw, isn't he like .216/3/9 in the last 30 days? not exactly votes of confidence... i mean he's given me like 11HR over ~240 at bats with that crap average in a league where i was kind of desperate for power and now am considering gordon beckham if he can continue to hit .280ish or something... the only league i've kept hill is the league where i'd likely be winning the damn thing by 15 points if i had any offense, but i don't so i traded felix hernandez for joey votto str8up and went the carlos santana route so i could trade mauer for adam dunn and i'm still 2/12 in HR 4/12 in RBI and miraculously 8 points out... HERE COMES BUMGARNER IN PLACE OF PHIL HUGHES, AKA THE FIRST PLACE EXPRESS.

i dont think you have anything to lose, and if the guy goes for it, you just have one more option at 2B for a potential end-of-the-stretch-run. pedroia is basebally enough as to where i think he'll hit the ground running and not have too much injury relapse. we've all seen the video of him on his knees taking grounders. GRINDER.
