Albert Pujols Value

Postby eaglesfan » Wed Jul 28, 2010 11:37 am

Ok, this is my first season doing a Keeper league so I'm trying to determine the value of Pujols. He cost me $42 at draft time and in my league it costs an additional $7 to keep him. So at $49 I probably won't be keeping him for next season.

A.) Is that the right move.

B.) If I do move him what type of value should I ask for in return.

My team is terrible at the moment and have no shot at the playoffs so I'm looking to next season.

What's up?
I'm in a $260 auction keeper league. General rule is you can afford two 40 dollar players. We paid the most in the entire auction for HanRam at 46, Fielder went for 45, Pujols was a keeper at 42, and there was 1 or 2 other players between 42 and 45. So following that logic, if you kept Pujols at 49 your second best player could only cost 31. Not a good way to field a balanced team. I'd trade pujols for 2 of the cheapest studs I could find. Or throw in another non-keeper and look for three young guys. Come back next year and overpay at 46 for Pujols and save three dollars while picking up three legit keepers. If the other guy keeps him, screw it. He'll have the above problems and not you plus first base is stacked. Best of luck man.

its all about value; and in this case its $ value. $7 is a pretty steep increase, so you'll need to find a couple players who've really shot up in value. The most fair way is advertising on the message board & see what comes in. Someone like a N Feliz or C Gonzalez maybe. Perhaps someone who was just a $1 player that will now go for $15 in next years auction

There is no value there. If you REALLY want Pujols that badly, you can draft him for $45 next year. You need guys that produce quality stats compared to the price spent on them. Protecting Pujols at $49 would be a terrible idea.

You don't want to protect your best players. You want to keep the guys that are worth more next year than it costs to keep them. If you keep your best players, you go into the draft with not enough money to get the guys to fill in the other slots.
