What's the deal with Adam Lind?

Postby the ROC » Tue Jul 27, 2010 12:15 pm

What kind of player is he REALLY, and what should we expect out of him for the rest of this season and over the next few years?

I made a bet in 2003 that the Devil Rays would win the 2008 World Series. Oh so close.

Last year was his upside. The first half of this season is his downside. When he's going good he hits bombs to all fields and hits for average. When he's going bad he pulls everything and struggles with the strike zone. He'll probably settle down as a .285ish 30 hr guy over the next couple seasons.
Here's the pitch on the way, a swing and a belt! Left field! Way back! BLUE JAYS WIN!

I think that he's definitely capable of recreating his 2009 success. Everything in his stats last year seemed like it made sense: batted ball splits, BABIP, K/BB rate....the only thing is that ISO and HR/FB rates were a little high, compared to the fairly pedestrian numbers he put up in the hitter-friendly PCL. If he gets his head out of his ass, I have no problem projecting .285 AVG with 25-30 HR and 100 RBI. The talent is there, the sustainability is there, but he just needs to seriously fix his plate approach. Maybe he needs a psychologist, or a nice, relaxing winter's break. If he falls to the 10th round or later next year, I'm buying.
