Weekly Strategy *WHIR*

Postby arruda » Tue Jul 27, 2010 8:15 am

Hi there lads.

I have a question for you: Im standing in first place in a 16-team H2H non-keeper league. Im 8 games ahead of the 2nd place, whom Im playing this week.

I began the week normally, yesterday I started Liriano and he played very well. But today I realized that my opponent has Felix Hernandez, Josh Johnson, Justin Verlander and Jaime Garcia going twice this week. He also has excellent pitchers in Oswalt, Kershaw and Porcello meaning I cannot beat him in WINS and STRIKEOUTS.

My staff: P. Hughes, C. Billingsley, F. Liriano, J. Niese, R.A. Dickey, T. Hunter, K. Medlen, T. Wood and T. Gorzelanny.

I really like them, last week I got 7 Wins and good peripherals from them, but I cant match my opponents ace this week. My question: should I punt Ws and Ks this week and start only my RPs Jonathon Broxton, Carlos Marmol and Brad Lidge in order to get the SVs, ERA and WHIP points?

Im pretty confident my batters are going to give 5 out of 5 points like they usually do. So in a worst case scenario I can beat him 6-4.

Don't automatically think you're beaten in a pitching match up. It only takes one 2 innings dog turd performance (called "pulling an Oliver Perez") for your opponent to be in a hole.

Also, Lidge+Broxton+Marmol on their own could quite easily blow your ERA/WHIP to bits over the course of one week. :-? If there are no innings minimums and you want to pull a fast one, I'd bench ALL of your pitchers and just be happy with ERA/WHIP.

Good luck ;-)

Look, u just gave me an excellent idea. I already reached the weekly minimum of 7 innings pitched and I already got one save.

My opponent doesnt have any closers, his only save threat is Evan Meek.

After yesterdays game my ERA is 0.00. My WHIP is 0.50. I wont start anyone. The guys is gonna be mad. Who cares?

Thanks Aussie. Go Sea Eagles.

Hint: if you put WHIR in the title, it probably shouldn't be posted in leftovers.

Good morning.

Man, I decide to trust my pitchers against the best staff in the league and so far these are the results:

Opponent pitchers:
Felix Hernandez, Justin Verlander, Josh Johnson and Jaime Garcia: 0 Ws, 18Ks, 4.03 ERA

My pitchers:
Francisco Liriano, Chad Billingsley, Jonathon Niese and Travis Woods: 4 Ws, 18Ks, 1.00 ERA

Unreal. Today R.A. Dickey will shutout the Cardinals. AUHAHUAHUAHUA. I wish.
