Trade away keeper to win this year? WHIR 100%

Postby footballisbetter.com » Mon Jul 26, 2010 11:43 pm

I am looking to make a run at the playoffs. I would be trading Pedro Alvarez, who will cost $1 for the next 3 seasons. No other players in this trade are keeper eligible. Is this worth it to make my team better this year. WHIR 100%

I give: P Alvarez, BJ Upton, Berkman, Slowey, Gorzollany, Medlan
I get: Texiera, Furcal, Bourne, Colby Lewis, Neiman, Jonathan Sanchez

5x5 h2h

My roster- keepers in bold
C- Posada
C- M Montero
1st- Berkman
3rd- Youkilis
CI- G Jones
2nd- Cano
SS- Andrus
MI- Weeks $1 for next season
OF (start 4) Ethier, CarGo, Granderson, BJ Upton
U- Pedro Alvarez $1 for next 3 seasons
Pitchers (start 9)- Felix, Verlander, Danks, Hughes $3 for next 3 seasons, Medlan, Slowey, Gorzelanny, A Bailey, Gregg
Bench- Hellickson $1 for next 2 seasons, Mike Gonzalez, E Meek

You are solidifying your staff a bit with good arms, but Sanchez and Niemann may be guys that are just having good years. I do not really know if I give up Pedro Alvarez at all especially at that price. He will be a 40 HR guy and maybe as soon as next year. Berkman on the decline and Upton has never really given us a full season of 5x5 production. I say if the pot is large enough and you feel that this trade will catapult you into the winners lounge then do it, but giving away Pedro may be a large price tag especially when he becomes one of the top 3B in the game.

help with mine?

An important thing would be to know who you would be keeping instead of pedro if you do this deal, but Tex is such a massive improvement over berkman, and your pitching gets deeper I would certainly do this trade....

I wouldn't know yet. I can only add extra years to players when I first draft or pick them up off the WW. So I could possibly make another trade for a keeper later or search the WW for a minor leaguer or an injured player who will produce next season.

I think getting Tex here is definitely worth the sacrifice of losing Alvarez for the next three. If you're in contention now, then you gotta do it. Tex is always a 2nd half monster.

I have never played in a keeper league or in league where the players had a salary. I don't really understand how the salary thing works. But, you said you want to win this year and I think this trade is huge in your favor. I would do it.

Just an FYI. I am currently in 4th place in my division (top 3 make the playoffs). I am 5.5 games out with 6 weeks to go. I would like to be a buyer but it has to be a trade that gives me a realistic chance to make a strong run.

i think i do this deal. it's a huge upgrade and definitely will give you a chance to make the top 3. after all you're only losing 1 keeper in Alvarez. There's no guarantee he'll be longoria just like there's no guarantee he'll be alex gordon

I say do it as well. Teix is a second half stud and is heating up. Getting him and upgrading some pitching trumps losing Alvarez in my opinion. Especially if you can possibly win this year.
