Trying to make a trade for Fielder WHIR

Postby bobnerns » Mon Jul 26, 2010 4:23 pm

I'm in a 10-man, H2H most categories, 5x5, non-keeper league. I'm in 1st place and will probably meet the team I'm attempting to trade with in the finals (1st place in other division).

For a little background, Shin-Shoo Choo was dropped by Fielder's owner about a week after his injury and the same day news came out that he would miss much less time than the projected 6-8 weeks (ended up being 16 games). I picked Choo up off waivers. Fielder's owner had told me about a month or two ago that Choo was the only untouchable player on his team (so he had a strong liking for Choo).

So now that I have Choo and he is healthy and hitting, I think I might be able to use him to get Fielder. Also, Fielder's owner has three first basemen for what it's worth (Fielder, Gonzalez and Lee).

The players on my team I'm willing to trade:
P Sandoval, G Beckham, L Berkman, G Sanchez, H Pence, A Jones, J Bay, S Choo and M Lindstrom

Players on his team he's probably willing to trade:
P Fielder, A Lind, C Figgins and B Jenks

The reason I've included the two closers is that Jenks is his worst and Lindstrom is my best. Also, I am completely fine getting rid of my closers.

What are some potential trades I couple propose involving those players that would hopefully be accepted? I don't necessarily have to "win" this trade. Also I'm fine doing an uneven trade (like 2 for 3 or 3 for 4). And all of these trades I'm trying to include Shin-Soo Choo.

My first thought is Fielder, Lind and Jenks for Sanchez, Choo and Lindstrom, but I'm not sure if he would accept that.

You guys must have a ton of roster space in this league, because some of these guys on both sides are waiver wire material even in 12 team leagues.

Unless you can somehow play 3 pure first basemen in this league, I cannot see him accepting any deal where he gets Gabby Sanchez back. He'll never play. The only real incentive for him to make a deal getting rid of Fielder is to be able to play Gonzalez and Lee everyday, in addition to what he gets from you.

However, I think you need to give up more than the caliber of player you're listing in order to get Fielder. Look and see what his needs are, rather than trying to trade 3 players who play the same positions as what you're getting back.

Hope this helps.

(Also, I'm not sure whether the "A. Jones" you list is Adam or Andruw. Adam would be better.)

We have 25 players +1 DL. 1 C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, MI, CI, UTIL, 5 OF, 9 P and 3 bench (which are standard ESPN settings). He had Fielder at 1B, Gonzalez at CI, and Lee at UTIL. Also no offensive players on his bench (12 pitchers).

A Jones is Adam Jones.

If he likes Choo so much, perhaps offer him back? Maybe him and Beckham, although I'm not sure that will be enough to get it done. Like the other poster mentioned, you might have to up the ante with the caliber of player you're offering.
