Pujols trade...WHIR!!

Postby Rhinochasers » Mon Jul 26, 2010 7:28 am

12 team 5x5 H2H keeper league...we keep 12 major and 4 minor leaguers
without seeing the rosters would you trade
Pujols, Stephen Drew, Bumgarner for David Wright, Hanley Ramirez, Tim Hudson

I am on the Pujols side but I can't decide if I want to do it. i am leaning that way but still can't decide.
I am not keeping Drew and odds are if I make the trade I am not keep Hudson. Pujols is a couple yrs older then Wright/HRam but Bumgarner is only 21 and looks decent through his first few starts after a down year last year in Minors.

I think you have to do it. Pujols is a great player, but you are getting the #1 SS and arguably the top 3B in this trade. Not only are Hanley and Wright stars, they are arguably the best players at shallow positions. Bumgartner has looked very good, but he doesn't offset the value you're receiving in the trade. Hudson isn't too bad himself, provided he's healthy like he is now.

You absolutely take this trade. 2009 draft, Hanley was the #1 pick, Wright was #4 (I think). 2010, Pujols was #1, Hanley #2, Wright #12 (or so). Next season, very good chance Hanley will be ranked over Pujols (and Wright might slip back into top 10).

I know those numbers don't mean a whole lot, but just look at who you're getting. Hanley sits in a tier by himself at SS. No one is even close to his level. Wright will be top 2 3B for years to come (with Longoria). Pujols plays a much deeper 1B position.

Sure, Bumgarner will probably be a good if not great pitcher in a few years, but he will never be a first round draft pick. You are getting two here for the price of one. You have to pull the trigger.

I agree with others. Do the trade.

1B is the deepest position in baseball, much easier to get a top player to replace Pujols than to fill the SS and 3B slots with top players. You'll be getting arguably the top player at each of those much shallower positions.

I think you are getting an absolute steal with this trade!

Yeah, Hanley is right up there with Pujols anyway, PLUS you get Wright? Do it.

Thanks guys for the input. I was leaning that way but when it comes to Pujols I wanted to be sure. I also like Bum but pitchers are more unpredictable.

I agree. I think you have to make this trade. You get the best SS (in a shallow position), and a top 3B. Yes Pujols is possibly the best player in baseball, but the drop from Pujols to say the 5th best 1B vs. Hanley/Wright to the 5th best SS/3B is huge. I'd do this.
