the only player I really know in this deal is Saunders, but I really hope he wasn't the centerpiece. Saunders is someone you throw in. bad ERA. bad WHIP. low K's. maybe gets an edge going to the NL but that would be like a step up from a 2 out of 10 to 3 out of 10.
I'm sure the DBacks could have gotten more from someone else.

Wow, talk about selling low. Made worse by the fact that they traded these 6 guys to get less than three years ago:

Pitchers Brett Anderson, Dana Eveland and Greg Smith; infielder Chris Carter; and outfielders Aaron Cunningham and Carlos Gonzalez.

one of the things that crossed my mind was that if this is what Arizona got for Haren he must have been a free agent after the season. wrong. he is signed through 2012 with a club option for 2013.
10:$8.25M, 11:$12.75M, 12:$12.75M, 13:$15.5M club option ($3.5M buyout)

I really don't understand this trade for Arizona unless the PTBN is some high top prospect.

is this a money saving issue?

this looks like one of the worst trades ever! even the Twins got more for Johan Santana.

I know Haren's numbers this season haven't been as expected, but Arizona fans must be thinking WTF!

EDIT
from mlbtraderumors.com and others.
7:19pm: The player to be named later is going to be Tyler Skaggs, barring something unexpected, according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic (via Twitter).

So pissed the Mets didn't get involved. They could've given a little more, and even then, it would have been a steal. :-t

Is this just a case of the D'Backs badly overvaluing Saunders?

Because I just don't understand how the Yankees (or any other team in baseball) couldn't have beaten this offer with ease.

Rumors in Detroit were that the DBacks were asking for top prospect Jacob Turner, lefty Andrew Oliver, and Charles Furbush. These are the better Tiger pitching prospects. So why did Zona settle for what seems like such a bad deal? Was it a pride thing? like he wasn't going to go back to Boston or the Yanks and revisit counter offers? Making your team stink is not a sound cost cutting technique. Gotta wonder what went wrong.

I gotta think the Phillies, Mets, Yanks, would have given up more. Heck, I think the Reds could have beaten what the Angels gave up.
