Keeper League - Trade Tulo for Domonic Brown?

Postby baseballboy » Sun Jul 25, 2010 4:22 pm

First year keeper league. I have Tulo at middle infielder for $37 in 2011 and already have Reyes at shortstop for $23 in 2011. We have 1, 2, and 3 yr contracts that go up $5 each year. I'll sigh Tulo for one year and Reyes for 3 years. I can trade Tulo for a $1 Domonic Brown and have him for 3 years at $4, $9, & $14. Tulo is a monster at the position for 2011 but this deal has me thinking. What are your thoughts?

Wow! Interesting dilemma. However, I'm always reluctant to go with unproven talent over an established stud. How strong is your team overall? There's no harm in having both Reyes and Tulo next year (assuming you have the usual UTIL spot(s) that one of them can be in. I'd rather win this year and next year than have an unproven player at a low price for 3 years down the road.

In the end, if I have any shot at winning keeping Tulo on my roster, I'd keep him on my roster.

Help mine?

Proven vs. unproven. If The Silkster were at the major leagues now producing, then I might consider this. But I can't trade a proven commodity in a thin position for a unproven OF. If someone wants Tulo make them give you a cheap OF that CAN produce.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!

$37 seems way to high too bring back at that price unless your operating budget is extremely high. If I were out of the race this year, knowing that I didn't want to re-sign him at an inflated rate I'd make that deal. You want to resign value contracts, not more than what they'd go for if thrown back in the pool

$37 seems like a high price, but I would still go with a proven stud over an unproven kid. If you really want to unload Tulo, I think you can get much more proven talent.

Help with mine?
