Are you suggesting that Anthopoulos decided to keep his relievers for some other reason than that?
AA's hoping that Downs, Gregg, and Frasor decline arbitration which would reap 4-5 picks for the team. Considering he declined many offers for all of these guys, he probably thinks that it's a significant (and even likely) possibility for all three of them.
Me personally, though? I'm not "counting" on anything. And I've already repeatedly mentioned that keeping Downs for next year on a 1 year deal doesn't hurt the Jays at all.

Hmm...
I don't really care to interject myself into this argumet as I really don't care about either side of it. But, do have to give props to this. pretty solid.

meh, i give the old man a break. He is 85 years old after all, and if you can't tell by reading his posts, his brain is slipping a touch.
Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the Nationals have placed first baseman Adam Dunn on waivers. As Olney notes, teams now have 48 hours to claim the slugger. The Giants were somewhat interested in Dunn before the trade deadline and are likely to at least put a claim out. If a trade can't be worked out from there, so be it, but they'll block other contending teams from snatching him up. Dunn has a .933 OPS and 26 home runs over 377 at-bats this year for the Nats.

Set the tone, you say? What about Brandon Lyon last winter? Or does Ed Wade not count either?
It seems to me that there is always somebody out there willing to overpay for a reliever.
Yawn. Brandon Lyon was 29 when he signed his deal. Not 34.
Downs signs 3 year/15M contract with the Angels, an identical contract to the one Brandon Lyon got (except Downs' has 1 additional M in incentives). The Jays will get two draft picks out of it: http://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status ... 5724482560
The only question that remains is do I ever get tired of being right? The answer is no.
