In a 12-team H2H with standard 5x5 scoring plus Quality Starts and OPS. My pitching has been slaughtering me for the last month or so due to inconsistency. I inquired a bottom feeder about Gallardo and he came back with his Gallardo and Carlos Quentin for Tommy Hanson and Justin Upton. I can't get a read on what Quentin will be the rest of the way and if it's enough to make up for the loss of Upton. I'm generally okay in most hitting categories, but would hate to lose a player of Upton's caliber.
I'm thinking Upton is going to have a monster second half, he's really been heating up lately....on top of that I really dont see Gallardo ending the season with a 2.448 ERA so I expect him slide quite a bit in the second half.....for me this trade just isnt good enough
Wow this one is tough. I like Upton's 5 tool production and Hanson will improve in the second half. He hit a bit of a wall due to a small mechanical issue and I like a pitcher going for a team fighting for a playoff spot. Soon as Atlanta makes a move to upgrade the OF and get rid of the midling CF they have...
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!
I'd pass on this deal. Hanson will be a solid performer going forward. I do like Gallardo over him, but it's not a significant enough upgrade to justify the downgrade from Upton to Quentin. Quentin has put together a nice little run here, but he is going to get hurt and miss time almost always when you need him the most. He's a rock star when healthy, but health is always the biggest concern. Upton is a 5 cat stud and will have a huge 2nd half. Stick with him. This deal doesn't improve you enough to convince me to deal Upton.
I like Upton. I wouldn't recommend the deal. If you got a little more in pitching, like if you upgraded another of your pitchers just slightly, I would like the trade.

There's only one determining factor in this trade: is your league a keeper league? If yes, you absolutely have to stick with Justin Upton. No thought about it. If there are no keepers for next season, I would trade for Gallardo.
I'm not so sure how well Upton will be in the second half. The Diamondbacks have shown everyone they are giving up on this season by trading Dan Haren. I could have a big negative effect on its players, especially an already struggling offense.
