I am dead last in a 12 team ESPN Roto 5x5 league (uses OBP instead of Average) we get 8 keepers on a Auction style draft and get to keep for $5 more than the previous season. I am looking to move big money players for youth to rebuild next season. I am trying to move mainly Mauer, Blanks, Haren, and Rivera.
I got offered (2011 keeper value is included) Matt Wieters $19 Johnny Cueto $9 Aramis Ramirez $27 for Joe Mauer $24 David Price $19
I thought about countering for Wieters/Cueto for Mauer/Blanks
Wieters has yet to live up to potential. Will he develop? Many argue yes. But an MLB rule of thumb is that you do not give up pure potential for proven talent.
Mauer has excelled at every level of this game. He has remained resilient and avoided major injuries. Wieters has a very impressive Minor League track record and did well last year at the end. But this does not justify it to me, even w/ the money
As for D. Price, a Lefty that throws near 100 MPH, and has little control problems or J. Cueto? That is laughable. Think about the impact players out there. If you are so concerned w/ lackluster performance this year, then you should stand pat till later. Price and Mauer should lock you up much better talent than this.
i dont like this trade either...you want to move mauer for $$ reasons, but you only save $5 trading for wieters...and wieters hasnt proven he's anything close to mauer, not yet at least...im not an aramis fan anyway, and again, doesnt make sense to take his big contract, unless you arent keeping him...your counter is better, but i wouldnt go through with it either...blanks/cueto arent keepers, so you get cueto for the rest of the year, and then you're trading mauer for wieters to save $5...i would stand pat with this guy...thanks for answering mine
I decided against Wieters for Mauer and now offered soemone else a trade basically Dan Haren, Mo Rivera, and Ryan Ludwick to a 3rd place team for Carlos Gonzalez and Jhoulys Chacin.
Good call, Mauer is the star of that deal... Wieters is continuing to grow but the rest of the deal wouldn't make up for the loss of Mauer, who I still say will return to form very soon and really hit his stride for the year.
