I have utley on the DL, and was offered cano for my dunn. Value-wise, I like cano better, but with utley back in a few weeks or so, and cano slumping (and dunn kinda hot) I kinda think I should pass on this. Its a 6x6 roto keeper....we keep 3 batters and 3 pitchers for as long as we want, and 2 each for just next year. Don't really like the idea of keeping to 2B....
cano has been a top 10 hitter thus far and if this is a keeper league, no question he is worth more.
even with utley back, i would think you can swing him or cano for somebody better than dunn.
if dunn is your only 1B i guess i understand your issue with dealing him for another 2B, but do you really think you couldn't get more for cano than dunn if you had to make a deal?
i would think guys like prince, youk or possibly even somebody like votto could be gotten in a deal for cano.
Ugh..... Not what I wanted to hear, but what I knew in my heart.... I really like dunn, and he's been better then cano of late, but I probably shouldn't pass on this I guess. I don't use dunn at 1B, I have a-gonz there.....quinten, wells, ichiro, soriano and hart are my other OFers. We only start LF, RF, CF and UTIL so I don't really need dunn.
Guess I'll probably take this and try to deal one of the 2B later.
Yes, absolutely. You said it yourself at the end of the post: take Cano and deal Cano/Utley later. Cano is definitely the better player now, and in the future. You can turn Utley around and get a solid OF as well, since Cano is younger than Utley, and has less of an injury history.
(In reference to an Aaron Hill for David Price swap)

You like Dunn now, but you won't when he hits a bad stretch and brings his BA down to his career levels. Cano is a top 10 player. You can trade him or Utley for another stud if you want in the future.
Cano, no brainer! You can definitely trade one of Utley or Cano later on for an upgrade somewhere else if need be. But if you have a UTIL, MI, or IF spot then just set it and forget it.
