I'm below average in my 20 team H2H non-keeper league in holds and I'm looking to make a free agency/waiver wire move to get some help there, as Matt Thornton is currently my only holds option on my pitching staff. Thankfully, there are some quality names available, as some of the owners in my league are overlooking their relief core.
To make it a little easier and to the point, I'm looking for a little help in picking the best FA reliever who can help me with holds. Here is who is available right now:
Joe Beimel - Col
Pedro Feliciano - NYM
Will Ohman - BAL
Matt Guerrier - MIN
Brad Ziegler - OAK
I am mostly leaning towards Feliciano or Guerrier, as I think they would be in the most stable spots for holds. Feliciano had a very good June, with 6 holds and an ERA of 1.64. However, he is fairly hittable, as his WHIP clearly shows and he has yet to have a hold in July (possibly just bad luck). Matt Guerrier was a proven holds option from last season (33 holds), so he has a pretty clearly established role and has done okay so far this year (13 holds, 2.97 ERA and 1.14 WHIP). My biggest concern with him is opportunity - after having 4 holds in April and 7 in May, he only had 1 hold in June and 1 so far in July. Is that a coincidence or is his role in Minnesota changing?
I know this post isn't filled with big names or sexy stats but holds count just as much as any other category in my league, so I need to make an effort there. Whatever insight or thoughts you guys have would definitely be helpful, as while I'm not new at all to fantasy baseball, this is my first year in a league that counts holds, so its an adjustment for me.
