What American accent do you have?
Your Result: Philadelphia
Your accent is as Philadelphian as a cheesesteak! If you're not from Philadelphia, then you're from someplace near there like south Jersey, Baltimore, or Wilmington. if you've ever journeyed to some far off place where people don't know that Philly has an accent, someone may have thought you talked a little weird even though they didn't have a clue what accent it was they heard.
Result Breakdown:
87% Philadelphia
80% The Midland
67% The Northeast
65% The South
56% The Inland North
44% Boston
33% The West
15% North Central

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: North Central
"North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw "Fargo" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot.
Result Breakdown:
86% North Central
84% The West
75% The Midland
63% Boston
30% The Inland North
23% The South
13% Philadelphia
9% The Northeast

I broke the rules and took this quiz even though I'm not American but the site was on to me. However, I did see the movie "Fargo" and I would like to contend that I do not sound like the people in that movie. :*)

There were two questions that I wasn't sure how to answer. When I say "about" it doesn't make exactly the same ou sound as in "loud" but it's not that far off. I'm guessing since I said I don't make the same sound it's assuming that I say "aboot", which from what I understand, is a Canadian stereotype. For the record I have never once in my life heard anyone say "aboot" unless they were asking where that stereotype came from. :-S

Also 13 was a little confusing since I've heard people pronounce "vague" like VAY-gue and like VAH-gue (like the sound from "yeah"). I chose no since I think most people say VAY-gue.

Either way it figured me out so I guess I can't say it was too flawed. !+)

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland
"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.
Result Breakdown:
88% The Midland
85% The Inland North
82% The Northeast
81% Philadelphia
78% The South
50% The West
34% Boston
11% North Central

Not surprising, I'm from the New York city half of Connecticut, the majority of us don't have an accent unless our families just moved out from NYC and brought their devil talk with them. :^

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Northeast
Judging by how you talk you are probably from north Jersey, New York City, Connecticut or Rhode Island. Chances are, if you are from New York City (and not those other places) people would probably be able to tell if they actually heard you speak.
Result Breakdown:
80% The Northeast
80% The South

62% The Inland North
61% The Midland
20% The West

Yeah I'm from Jersey, nice work <sarcasm> :-b

I don't see how you can answer any differently :-?

what...you only got 50% correct :-?

FWIW here are the correct answers

3. We're going to start with two ordinary words, "cot" and "caught." Do you think those words sound the same or different?
Same
Different
Same, no wait I mean different, well, I don't know...

4. What about "don" and "dawn"?
Same
Different
Same...ish. Maybe a little different.

5. OK, what about "stock" and "stalk"?
Same
Different
Almost, but not quite, the same

6. Now then how do "collar" and "caller" sound?
Same
Different
Almost, but not quite, the same

7. Do you think the word "on" rhymes with "dawn" or with "don"?
dawn
don
Well, I don't think don and dawn sound any different in the first place so on would obviously rhyme with both

8. Moving on, what do you think about "Mary," "merry," and "marry"?
All 3 sound different
Mary and merry sound the same but marry is different from them
All 3 sound the same

9. Our next word is "horrible." How does that first vowel sound?
It's just like in the word "whore."
It's the same "o" sound as in "hot."
Neither one

10. Now for "pen" and "pin." Don't worry about what others say is correct, just tell us how they come out in an ordinary conversation.
Same
Different
Close. Pen sounds almost, but not quite, like pin.

11. What about "feel" and "fill"?
Same
Different
Well, I think they're different even though they sound very, very similar almost to the point of being the same

12. When you say "about," does the "ou" sound like the "ou" in "loud"?
No
Yes

13. Last question. When you say "bag" does it rhyme with "vague"?
Yes
No
