I never much liked the Yankees. The man did it the Yankee way and owned the team like he expected the Yankees to win the World Series every year. you can't ask for anything more in an owner. he was great for the Yankees and great for baseball. he'll be missed.
Awful news, but I had known this day was coming for the last couple years. Their family would never release any medical information about him, but it was obvious he was in poor health and looked like he had had a stroke. He's only been seen in public a few times the last couple seasons. I just hope his sons don't sell the team now that he's gone, Steinbrenner would roll over in his grave. He wasn't the best person or most liked man, but he did everything you could ever ask of an owner. He was also very charitable, but would give most of his money anonymously because he didn't want the attention. I had been eyeing the new biography: Steinbrenner: The Last Lion of Baseball, but am now ordering it on amazon as I type this.
I'm not around here as much anymore but I had to stop in when I heard the news. Really sad day for all of baseball and for Yankee fans in particular. Best owner in sports as far as I'm concerned, and whether you agree with his methods or not, you have to respect his will to win. He will be missed greatly.
Figures he would try to show up MLB by passing away on the eve of the ASG. Classic Big Stein, still giving Selig the finger from the grave lol. RIP ya passionate S.O.B.
