Big Trade: Lincecum/Ethier for Hanley/Phillips/Shields

Postby nobby » Tue Jul 13, 2010 9:00 am

12 team mixed points league, non-keeper. Currently 10th out of 12 and need to make a move. I have been offered Hanley, Brandon Phillips and James Shields for Lincecum and Ethier. Definitely need middle infield help, and my OF has been strong, even without Ethier. Not sure I have the SP to sustain this though. I asked for Scherzer instead of Shields but he is off the table.

Should I pull the trigger?

Roster:
C Jorge Posada
1B Billy Butler
2B Casey McGehee
3B Mark Reynolds
SS Marco Scutaro
OF Carlos González
OF Andre Ethier
OF Magglio Ordóñez
BN Brennan Boesch
BN Aaron Hill
BN Rod Barajas

SP Matt Garza
SP Cliff Lee
SP Tim Lincecum
SP Jason Vargas
RP Leo Núñez
RP Octavio Dotel
BN A.J. Burnett
BN Carlos Villanueva
BN Erik Bedard (DL)

I would do that trade for two reasons:

1. Even if you trade Lincecum, you still have an ace in Cliff Lee

2. Marco Scutaro is your current SS, Hanley would be a big upgrade.

Not to mention the year Phillips is having.

Those are both good points, and ones I had considered. What's killing me is I gave up Halladay to get Ethier two days before he broke his finger, so I feel like I have not got much ROI there yet.

I think Hanley/Phillips is a much stronger offensive upside than Ethier. He's not gonna hit 20 HR in the second half. Shields is a downgrade, but Lincecum hasn't exactly been worth it this year. I'd do it.

Help on mine? viewtopic.php?f=26&t=416597
