Drop Jay Bruce or Mike Stanton for Roberts? WHIR!!

Postby CrashDavisAllStars » Mon Jul 12, 2010 10:54 pm

I am in first place in an 11 team $$ league (Roto - normal 5x5.) I have only a 4 point lead on 2nd, but a mamouth lead on everyone else. Since I have a bit of breathing room, and since ManRam and Clay Buchholz are both coming off the DL this week, I was thinking about sitting on Brian Roberts for the next couple of weeks till he comes back. But whom should I drop? Jay Bruce or Mike Stanton? Here is my roster:
11 team Roto (normal) 5x5 league- Roster:
C - Carlos Santana
1B - Buster Posey
2B - Dan Uggla
3B - Adrian Beltre
SS - Hanley Ramirez
OF - Carl Crawford
OF - Hunter Pence
OF - Magglio Ordonez
OF - Jay Bruce
Util - David Ortiz
Util - Carlos Pena
BN - Mike Stanton
BN - Manny Ramirez (DL - coming off this week and will replace the slumping Jay Bruce)
DL - Jacoby Ellsbury

Sorry...was having technical difficulties with the first message...Anyways:

My pitching staff:
SP-Felix Hernandez
SP-Dan Haren
SP-Mat Latos
SP-Stephen Strasburg
SP-Max Scherzer
RP-Mariano Rivera
RP-Jonathon Broxton
RP-Joakim Soria
BN-Jair Jurjjens
DL-Clay Buchholz

So, do you think I drop Stanton, Jay Bruce, or just sit tight?

That is a tough one. I like having Uggla as your 2nd baseman. It looks like you could use Roberts SBs though. Roberts will always be an injury risk. If you are willing to take that risk then I would get rid of Bruce. I have Stanton on my team as well and it seems like the last week he has really started to pick up his hitting. I think he should provide nice HR and RBI in the 2nd half.

Thinking about it more, I would not pick up Roberts over Bruce or Stanton. I would stay with what you have. You can get more value out of Bruce in a trade than picking up Roberts who knows what his back will be like when he returns.

You don't think Roberts is worth the risk, huh? Would it change anything if I added that the 2nd place team has Freddy Sanchez at second and it scares me to think that he could add Roberts if I don't and Roberts does what he does every year: hover around .300 with 8-10 SB per month and 25 runs scored per month...

Yea...maybe I can try and package something over the next several days...Maybe a 2-for-1 or a 3-for-2 to open up a spot instead of just dropping Bruce...

I agree with your last comment. A 2 for 1 or 3-2 trade that gives you an open spot and improves a position makes more sense. I was reading reports on Roberts and they are not sure what he is going to be like when he returns to the field. Sounds like they are hoping for the best.

If it's not a keeper league or dynasty league, I don't think Stanton produces consistently enough to help you. I think you have to drop him for Roberts if the chance presents itself.
