Hart's Value? WHIR

Postby chowder » Mon Jul 12, 2010 2:19 pm

There are two schools of thought on Hart this year that either he will have a career year and keep driving home runs and RBI or he will regress after the all star break as he did in the past. I'm in a h2h points league that favors power hitting by not penalizing .avg or k's. Who would be a good target for a batter or pitcher in return for Hart or should I just sit back and see what happens with the 2nd half?

If your league doesn't penalize K's or Avg, then three great players to look at for power who have slow first halves are Mark Reynolds, Adam Lind, and Carlos Pena (in order of who I'd rather have). Reynolds hasn't had that slow of a first half in regard to HR and RBI, but since his average is so low you may be able to buy low on him. Lind has been pretty bad but seems like he could have a breakout 2nd. And I just don't know about Pena, but when I think power at the sacrifice of average, I think Pena.

Corey Hart definitely could keep up what he's doing. I only thought it would last the 1 or 2 weeks when he first became hot, so I missed out of picking him up in my league. But I was proved wrong. And looking back, Hart has been a top 10 or 15 OF before, so I'm not surprised he is again.

But if you really want to mix things up, try to buy low on a guy like I listed. Test the waters and see what your league-mates thinks he's worth.

Bobnerns listed the guy I'd look into: Reynolds. The average has to come up (it's in the low .220's right now) and his power has remained. Pena is a good power option too. If you don't need a 3B, look into Vazquez or even Tommy Hanson - if the other owner is low on him (two good SP's that could be looking at great 2nd halves) if the other team needs an OF badly.

Which 3 SP's do you like? viewtopic.php?t=416598

I think Hart will keep HRing in the second half, though the rate may slow a little. Maybe he'll steal a bit more. Be interesting to see if he gets traded though...could help or hurt. I wouldn't be desperate to trade him, but certainly for the right offer.

Bringing this subject up again as the trade rumors continue...one of which has him going to Petco park. I already have Reynolds on my team and Lind is on ww, so they won't be targeted. Pena owner is pretty high on Pena this year (I'm not sold on him although Hart would probably be enough to get him). Who should I target for a potential trade? I've heard Weaver as a target in a different forum...WHIR

My team:
C: Montero
1B: Fielder
2B: Cano
SS: HanRam
3B: Reynolds
IF: LaRoche
OF: Bay, BJ Upton, Hart
UT: Dunn
Bench: Polanco, Choo (DL), Stanton

SP: Wainwright, Nolasco, Hamels, Baker
RP: Bell, Valverde
Bench: Danks, Garcia, Latos, Lilly, Scherzer, Lidge

Honestly, I'd stick with him. I think this is the year he could break through. The MIL lineup in general is promising with Weeks, Hart, Braun, Fielder, and McGehee, and I'm of the belief that this is legit, and it's about damn time as well. Once Gallardo comes off the DL and stabilizes the starting rotation, I think the Brewers can make a run.
(In reference to an Aaron Hill for David Price swap)
