How valuable is Hellickson???...WHIR

Postby joshc » Mon Jul 12, 2010 12:43 pm

I am thinking of offering this deal:

I give:

J. Sanchez, Gio Gonzalez, K. Medlen, Ardsma

I get:

J. Hellickson, J. Niese, (either Drew Storen or Evan Meek), and C. Rasmus

Does this deal make sense for me? I am currently in first place, but in a dynasty I wonder if Hellickson is worth it...

Dynasty League (Salary Cap) - 5x5 Standard Cats - H2H.

C - Mauer
1B - B. Butler
2B - I. Kinsler
SS - J. Rollins
3B - R. Zimmerman
OF - C. Quentin, R. Braun, M. Ramirez, M. Ordonez
Util - B.J. Upton
Bench - M. LaPorta

SP - R. Halladay, Chad Billingsley, Zack Greinke, J. vasquez, Y. Gallardo, U. Jimenez, J. Sanchez, B. Anderson, G. Floyd, G. Gonzalez, E. Volquez, K. Medlen

CL/R - B. Wilson, J. Soria, D. Ardsma, J. Valverde

he is all hype for sure....and might be the real deal. imagine if you were saying this last year but instead of Hellickson you were staying Strausberg...

not really giving much up anyway.

If you offered me that trade in a dynasty league I would probably laugh at you. Hellickson is the real deal. He has a 4/1 K/BB this year for AAA Durham. Last year between AA and AAA it was 4.55. In '08 between AA and A he had an 8.1 K/BB. His peripherals have always been stellar and his fastball and control are both top notch. I have personally seen him pitch, and he is definitely valuable. There is a reason that the Rays are trying to trade away one of their starters for an OF bat, it's because they don't lose anything in having Hellickson start instead. Hellickson is definitely valuable, especially in a dynasty league, and it will probably cost more to acquire him.

I'm not seeing the reason the other owner would want that; he knows Hellicksons value and you are offering the bottom of your roster. Plus you snag Niese and Rasmus. If I'm the other owner I want alot more from your roster than what you are offering up. not even close

The only way I see the other owner accepting this deal is if he is contending for the title, as he'd be getting a boost this season. Like the others here said, you're getting a major advantage in terms of young, dynasty-type players. You may as well offer it, but be prepared to come up with another offer if he declines.
