need to drop one minor league guy

Postby neoforce » Sun Jul 11, 2010 11:31 pm

Based on my leagues rules, I need to drop one of these minor league guys:

Jaff Decker, SD OF
Josh Vitters, CHC 3B
Jiovanni Mier, HOU SS

Any thoughts?

It'd likely be Decker. While he has had huge success with a great eye pretty much up to this point, he doesn't project well for the majors. He's simply too small and round for me. :-B

I'd drop Decker, he's really struggling this year (to be honest all 3 are). Mier has a good shot to get to the majors on his D at SS. If he ever hits like he did last fall, he'll be pretty valuable.

Decker was way behind b/c he started late due to injury. He was K-ing somthing like 50% until he got his timing back. Been a good deal better since then. Still a few yrs out tho.

I have Mier and Decker very close in my rankings. The thing about Decker is even if you overlook his struggles this year, he's still a bat only prospect with a bad body. One scout comment thrown out there was "What does a 19 year old who looks like Matt Stairs look like when he turns 25?"

It's looking like Mier's offensive numbers last fall are probably not his real ability. He does have a MLB glove at a premium position. That will at least keep pushing him through the system and maybe at some point he starts hitting like he did a year ago.

Yeah - this is precisely how I looked at the both of them too.
