which SP should I cut?

Postby screwyinstlouie » Sun Jul 11, 2010 7:59 pm

In the H2H format, rotating SP's is a good thing IMO, trying to accumulate W's and K's. Especially in my case, since most weeks I don't have much of a shot in ERA and WHIP anyway. But now I find myself having collected too many SP's, and I'd like to pick up Posey. Which of my SP's should I cut?

Yahoo 8-team mixed, non-keeper, weekly HTH, daily lineup changes, 24-man roster + 2 DL. My team:
SP - F. Hernandez, T. Hanson, Vazquez, Danks, Cahill, Floyd, J. Garcia, Scherzer, C. Buchholz
DL - Volquez, Beckett
RP - Soria, R. Soriano, Jenks, Lidge
C - C. Santana
1B - Teixiera
2B - Zobrist
3B - R. Zimmerman
SS - Rollins
OF - Ethier, Rios, Victorino
Util - Fielder, V. Guerrero
BN - Granderson

Free Agents as of 7/11 include:
SP - Lackey, Lilly, Marcum, Medlen, Pavano, C. Richard, Romero, T. Wood
RP - Axford, Putz, Simon, Thornton, K. Wood
C - Napoli, Posey
1B - Huff, Adam LaRoche, D. Lee, Loney, C. Pena
2B - K. Johnson, Kendrick
3B - J. Bautista, C. Jones
SS - E. Aybar, S. Drew
OF - Bruce, Carlos Lee, Pagan, Pence, Pierre, Quentin

Thanks for any input.

I'd drop Volquez and move Buchholz to the DL. I don't like Volquez at all as Dusty really has no idea how to treat young arms (that's why he got hurt in the 1st place, go back and look at his pitch total), and I'm convinced that he'll either get hurt again, or have a very up-and-down performance. If you can't move Clay to the DL, I'd drop him as he's been getting terribly lucky so far this year.

I like Posey, but you have Santana, so I'm not sure he's the pickup to make. Instead, what about Carlos Quentin? The dude's been tearing the cover off the ball. I'd pick him up and play him over Victorino.

Please return the favor:

With those FA, I'd stream starters. Take 2 guys (Buchholz, Scherzer) and drop them if someone on the FA wire has a tastier matchup, and then pick them up if the matchups are in their favor. From those 2, I agree with the poster above- Buchholz, especially because of the injury. He'll miss a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the help with mine.

Thanks for the insight, guys. I went ahead and moved Buchholz to my DL, dropped Volquez, and picked up Quentin. And I'll probably drop Scherzer for someone pitching on Thursday, like R.A. Dickey.

Good call, that's what I was going to suggest.
