Backup Catcher Napoli or Posey?? TYIA/WHIR

Postby rodimus » Fri Jul 09, 2010 3:30 pm

I'm in a 12 team keeper league 5x5 head to head.

AVG, R, SB, RBI, HR
ERA, WHIP, SV, K, W

I had Victor Martinez starting and Napoli as my backup, but Posey was on the free agent list. So I dropped Posey for Napoli.

Was that stupid or a good move, because I could try and grab Napoli back off waivers. This league only has 1 DL spot so that makes this tough also. TYIA/WHIR

Here is my roster-

C Buster Posey, SF C, 1B
1B Prince Fielder, Mil 1B
2B Howard Kendrick, LAA 2B
3B Michael Young, Tex 3B
SS Derek Jeter, NYY SS
OF Matt Holliday, StL OF
OF Ichiro Suzuki, Sea OF
OF Andre Ethier, LAD OF
UTIL Paul Konerko, CWS 1B, DH

P Edwin Jackson, Ari SP
P Jorge De La Rosa*, Col SP DL15 PP
P Mat Latos, SD SP
P Derek Lowe, Atl SP
SP Clayton Kershaw, LAD SP
SP Max Scherzer, Det SP
RP Mariano Rivera, NYY RP DTD
RP Jose Valverde, Det RP

Bench Alfonso Soriano, ChC OF
Bench Ryan Theriot, ChC SS, 2B
Bench Austin Jackson, Det OF
Bench Felipe Lopez, StL 2B, 3B, SS

DL Placido Polanco*, Phi 2B, 3B DL15
Bench Victor Martinez*, Bos C, 1B DL15

I think it's OK. VMart will be back soon, and in this case there's no harm in trying the shoot the moon. I think Napoli is a bit safer, but Posey has more upside and might be a more attractive trade target.

Couldn't agree more. The upside for Posey is worth taking a a flier on. And as the other poster said, you may be able to trade him for upgrades at another position closer to the deadline. Definitely keep Posey stashed on your bench. You should be able to start him as well while he is hot.

Thanks, he had a monster week for me last week.

If he keeps this up I might trade Victor for pitching or to add youth in the IF.
