All other things being equal, Zimm or Utley for next year?

Trade offered is my Ryan Zimm (just traded greinke for him), Hughes, Ryan Franklin for Utley, Billingsley, Heilman. I'm out of contention for this year..

Leave a link pls!

I think Utley over Zimm is a no brainer. The real question comes when including the other guys as I think Billingsley is a little iffy. All-in-all, I would take the trade if I were you.

Who are your other pitchers? I like hughes as a keeper for next year so I would say that you lose out in that regard if you do this trade. Also, I don't think Utley will put up better numbers than Zimmerman (and Zimmerman is younger). The only reason why he is so valuable is that he puts those numbers up at 2b. I don't have enough information really, but if I assume that Zimmerman is a later pick than Utley and Hughes is a late round, I think you could be giving up too much. But it could go either way.

Hughes was my 14 or 15 rounder..will cost at most 11th rounder to keep 2 more years.

Zimm was a 5th rounder, COULD go up to a 1st but will probly stay 5th or maybe 4th.

Utley's tough to predict. His contract runs out this season so he will be priced according to where his final rank is for this year. To give an example, I had Sizemore last year and his contract expired, so his value for 2009 final rank turned out to be a 16th rounder.

The plus to bringing Utley aboard would be that I'm sure he will be cheaper than usual for next year..the minus is, I have no way of knowing just how much till the offseason. Should Utley come back and tear it up this season it may well be around the 5th round pick I'd spend for Zimm to keep him.

I decided against the trade..in part b/c of the pricing I discussed earlier, plus that I'd be losing a guy who I might well keep as a bargain in Hughes.
