I actually think it makes more sense for the Rangers.
With that orgainization up in the air, they need to take advantage of this opportunity to try and win it. It's the best team they've have in forever, they have great hitting, a good bullpen, and all they really needed was a front line starter.
The addition of a staff ace and decent bullpen arm in Lowe [edit: Lowe on the DL, might be out for year] makes them a very real contender. And for at least this year, the difference between Smoak and Davis isn't really anything at all.
