Didn't really like it for the Yankees and especially don't like it for Texas. Smoak for half a season of Lee, considering he's not re-signing with them in the offseason? No thanks.

And I'm with Tav on Jack Z. He was lauded in the offseason but the results just aren't there. I'm sure he's a fine GM but I need to see a little more to be convinced he's the genius everyone claims.

And you should never ever judge a front office or a manager based on results. Judge the process, not the results.

I actually think it makes more sense for the Rangers.
With that orgainization up in the air, they need to take advantage of this opportunity to try and win it. It's the best team they've have in forever, they have great hitting, a good bullpen, and all they really needed was a front line starter.


The addition of a staff ace and decent bullpen arm in Lowe [edit: Lowe on the DL, might be out for year] makes them a very real contender. And for at least this year, the difference between Smoak and Davis isn't really anything at all.

Oh, didn't see that.
Either way he's not really an important part of the deal. Their bullpen is already pretty good, and with the addition of Lee it will allow them to move someone like Harden or Feldman into the pen as well.


Rotoworld has Lowe trying to return in Sept, but who knows:

The Rangers are taking a chance on Lowe even though he might miss the rest of the season following back surgery. He’s currently hoping to return in September. The talented but oft-injured right-hander had a 3.48 ERA in 10 1/3 innings before getting hurt. He had a 3.26 ERA in 80 innings last season.
