Hey, all. I'm trying to make a run at the title in a 16-team keeper league this year. When Kendry Morales went down, that really hurt my chances. So, i'm trying to get a big stick via trade.
I offered BJ Upton and Morales for Fielder/Markakis/plus a draft pick (we have a minor league roster). Manager countered with Rasmus/Morales for Fielder/Markakis.
Need some opinions.
I like Rasmus more than Upton for the long term.
Waddya think? thanks.
Current roster:
My current roster: C: Rod Barajas / Jason Varitek 1B: K. Morales / David Ortiz 2B: Brandon Phillips 3B: David Wright / Casey Blake / Brandon Wood SS: Yunel Escobar OF: Michael Bourn / BJ Upton / Alex Rios / Brad Hawpe / Colby Rasmus SPs: Yovani Gallardo / John Danks / Wandy Rodriguez / Rich Harden / Bronson Arroyo / Oliver Perez / Clay Bucholz RPs: Jonathan Papebon / Huston Street / Jeremy Affeldt / Mike Adams / Wil Ohman / Joel Hanrahan
We keep a full 25-man roster at the end of the year. We also have a minor league roster with 15 guys. Can store them for 5 years. Once they are up, they have to stay up or be dropped.
I know Fielder has struggled a bit this year, but I still like him over the long run more than K. Morales. I don't value Rasmus as high as some may, as I think guys like him and Markakis come a dime a dozen. I would say that getting Fielder would be a great move for the remainder of this year (minus BA) but also futuristically. He's simply more proven to me than Morales.
I'm still not sure about how good/consistent Rasmus will be. He certainly looks like he's on pace for 30/100/20. I'd take that in a heartbeat. That being said, he still sits against lefties!
As for Markakis, he looks like he's settled in to a 20 HR kinda guy. And the Orioles suck so bad that not many are on base before or after him to get him some stats. But, he's still young. Another year and maybe some more power shows up?

I like this deal. Prince is struggling this year, but I still like him better long term then Morales. Markakis might never hit 20+ homeruns again, but he contributes enough in the other categories to be reliable. I like it.
If you have a realistic shot at the title, take it. Rasmus could turn into a superstar, but he could also turn into, say, Nick Markakis, and the projected difference between Morales and Fielder is not huge in future years. Remember, Morales is younger, and hits for a high average, but probably will never have Fielder's power.
