Deep League Trade Advice (WHIR)

Postby hockeytownjoe » Sat Jul 03, 2010 1:54 pm

This is a 20 Team Roto League, 5x5, very competitive and deep rosters.

I have Rajai Davis and am looking to trade him. I know it's hard, given the fact that he's not an everyday starter, but I figure I could still sell his speed/runs when he does play.

The question becomes, what sort of pitcher could I land for him? The two places I need help are SP, MI and CI, and I don't think I could land a CI worth anything for him straight up. Looking at SP I was taking looks at guys like Carmona or Floyd, but I am not 100% what I could land.

Of course, it's hard to tell without the other rosters, but if anyone has an idea of what sort of SP I could get in return, I could sort of go from there. I do have a trade offer out for Eric Bedard (Wade Davis for Bedard; other manager wanted a somewhat decent pitcher) that I'm waiting to hear back on.

I've also listed some of the FA available in the league at the bottom.

I was just offered this deal:

I Give: Julio Borbon/Jhoulys Chacin
I Get: Troy Glaus/Justin Masterson

With Chacin the probable choice to get yanked from the rotation for De La Rosa, does this make sense? Masterson isn't spectacular, but he'll get me K's, and Glaus would allow me to not be forced to start Overbay. It leaves the OF a bit thin with Crawford/Guerrero/Drew/Crowe as my only true starters, with Patterson/Fukudome/Davis/Overbay/Bell slotting in at Util.

Glaus has been dealing with an achy knee. He is getting cortisone shots and should be back in the lineup this week but something to consider.

As for the question about Davis, I'd think a 2ns or 3rd tier pitcher would be good value.

As for the trade, I'd do it, as you have no real depth at 1B. Masterson has great potential, and may have a pretty good second half. You also have Anderson coming back in the 2nd half.

Thanks for the input. I also have Marcum (I hope) coming back, so that would be a plus if he does. Three other questions that I have:

Would dealing Davis still be wise if I move Borbon? I'd then have 4 Starting OF with someone in at Utility (which comes down to Patterson/Bell/Overbay/Fukudome unless I trade for someone). I was looking at maybe Gavin Floyd for Davis? I know he's heating up so it's a stretch.

Is Alex Cora worth adding? I don't know how long Castillo is out or what the split is between Cora and Tejeda, but would he be better than, say, Josh Wilson who seems to be a bench player now with Branyan and Jack Wilson back in Seattle?

Would it be too much of me to ask for someone like Fowler back in the deal? Something like Glaus/Masterson/Fowler for Borbon/Chacin (and a third if I need it)?
