Is Johan Santana droppable? What about Matt Cain?

Postby krunchyfrogg » Fri Jul 02, 2010 9:04 am

Let me start by saying that I'm playing in a very shallow, 9 team league. I'm just wondering if I'm making a big mistake by dropping either of these guys.

I mean, they're bound to bounce back, right?

I don't see why you would drop cain after one bad start, he'd been on fire for 2 months before then Johan on the other hand us a shell of his former self and his best days are far behind him, what pitchers are out therre?

Well, I'm averaging just at my IP limit (and that includes skipping Johans last 3 or 4 starts), and I am struggling in saves. I was going to pick up Axford, Heliman, or Wood.

I'm in first place, but that's not a sure thing. A boost in Saves would really propel me forward.
Looking forward to back to back championships in 2011!

All those guys suck, johan might still have enough name recognition to get u a good closer like bell, wilson or feliz.

no, not for any of those closers. If you really need a closer try to trade for one.

Yeah, I tried that.

I know the closer suck, but when you pitch 3 or 4 innings a week, you can't hurt ERA/WHIP too much, and 1-2 saves per week could push me up 3 or 4 points in the standings. There's a logjam in the Saves category, and I can flux from 2nd to 6th place pretty easily. (of course, the onther guys in the league can as well)

what hitters are you not starting on a regular basis? I would consider dumping one of them over a starter.

Don't drop Santana, he still has value somewhat, try trading him first and foremost. Like you, I got fed up with him and moved him with a couple of throw-ins for David Price in my keeper league.

The way my team is currently constructed, I only have room for one guy on the bench. Right now that's Glaus, because he's slumping. But Granderson sits against LHP. It's not much room to play with.
