Drop Montero for Suzuki? WHIR

Postby Bjorne Greece » Fri Jul 02, 2010 5:49 am

I know Miguel Montero was projected to be a top 4-5 catcher for this year, but Kurt Suzuki is available on the wire. Should I make the move? Suzuki is having a very productive year.

Suzuki is good, but i think Montero has more potential. I would stick with Montero. Suzuki could have some nice numbers with double digit power with some nice SB, but i think Montero's potential is higher.

I would keep Montero. Although he won't hit .375 the rest of the way (that's from a .415 BAIP in 2010 versus a career .305 BABIP), he's cut down on his strikeouts the last three years (26.6% in 2008, 18.4% in 2009, 14.4% in 2010), so even though his career BA is closer to .275, he should be able to hit for a high average the rest of the year, like .290-.310. Besides, he'll get more R/RBI than Suzuki because of the lineup and ballpark he's in. Arizona has one of the best offenses (especially at home), while Oakland has one of the worst lineups in the league. Stay put, and good luck.
