which pitcher/s would you trade? WHIR massive!

alright, i'm doing five proper 5x5 12 team yahoo roto publeagues, and this one is the winner's league. i want to win this one.

i just had a nice 2 week run atop the league from anywhere from 1 to 10 points up, but there's enough fluidity in stats to go up and down, and as of right this second i'm down a point.

i've got .271/96/384/88, which breaks down to 7/12 in HR, 6.5/12 in RBI, 12/12 in steals (albeit i'm only up by one or two, then there's a big dropoff after 2nd place) and my average and runs are 7 and 5 points respectively) -- keep in mind, 10/12 in HR is currently 5 ahead of me at 101, theres 2 points at RBI within 13 RBIs of me, same with like 2-3 points in runs within ~10-15 runs. so while my offense is solid, this league is competitive enough as to where when i have my usual top-tier pitching staff having an upper 1/2 to 1/3 offense doesn't hand me the league by 10-20 points.

pitchingwise i'm 58 wins 51 saves and 732k with a 3.24/1.24, however, i'm projected to be ~86IP over the limit when it's all said and done. therefore, i'm going to have to lose some SP and try to add more offense or start to get saves... you'll see why, but i've got three closers and i'm currently hamstrung with the orioles closer situation for my 4th. oh and in terms of saves, i'm tied with one guy at 51, there's another point in saves at 53, then the next point is at 62. the guy at 53 saves has 4 closers cuz he snipped me on axford, who has given him 6 saves to help pass me. anyways: i'll shutup and give you the team

c - brian mccann (i was like 10 minutes off on missing carlos santana otherwise i'd have traded this guy)
1b - albert pujols
2b - chone figgins (finally getting those SBs)
ss - alexei ramirez (in a deep league, you could do worse)
3b - jose bautista (one mistake i made this year, i had rolen for ~3-4 games b4 going to bautista... i shoulda kept rolen and used bautista in teh OF)
OF - adam dunn (das power)
OF - garrett jones (waited out the slump, kind of rewarded)
OF - jay bruce (he's hitting .280... power plz)
util - vladimir guerrero (all 6 leagues since day one. this is my guy)
util - rajai davis
bench/OF/(DL pickup) - coco crisp

SP - felix hernandez, ricky romero, david price, mat latos, tommy hanson, phil hughes, jaime garcia
RP - mariano rivera, carlos marmol, bobby jenks, alfredo simon
DL/RP - michael gonzalez

so yeah, i mean, looking at my pitching i've got one name-type staff ace in felix hernandez, then from there i reckon david price is the next big sizzle guy, what with 11 wins and whatnot. mat latos is quietly the most valuable pitcher on my staff, one notch ahead of david price (who has 3 more wins and nearly 1/2 a run better ERA, but latos has a 1.00 WHIP as opposed to price's 1.21) and ricky romero is doing his thing on an average team. phil hughes has been giving up runs lately, but he's still got 10 wins and plays for a team that will give him run support. tommy hanson is prolly an albatross at the moment coming off of two horrible outings that ballooned him up from the mid 3s to 4.50/1.39, and then jaime garcia is obviously the guy who screams trade me... but i dunno if i can get much back for him.

so looking at my team and knowing that i can't ride 7 SPs all year and i'm trending towards the horrible 100 projected innings over, i have to move some guys... i had a league or two like this last year, where i staked out to early first place leads got my pitching way out there with high IP and good quality ERA/WHIP/Ks and enough wins to then scale back, nab some RP/offense, and ride it out.

so who would you trade and for what kind of player/s? i'll respond to yours... i've spent a good hour on here today dorking it up with fantasy baseball, so if you help me i shall helpeth thee.

thanks

Thanks for your post.

I hope I am answering your question.

Pitcher to trade right?
feli... Dont trade as value is too low and he will go up
ricky romero I could see trading him
david price I prefer hanging on here as well
mat latos Doing superb, but not all will buy him. Hold.
tommy hanson Has a name and a candidate to trade
phil hughes Hughes would be my second pitcher to trade
jaime garcia Best target to move in my opinion. His name is quite spread by now.

Hope I answered right.

Looking at your team, you could probably use a IF upgrade.

I"m thinking you could probably get quite a bit for Hughes, since he's a former top prospect/current Yankee...deadly combo. Plus he'll be on a innings limit. Deal him while he's hot, shoot for a Ben Zobrist, Rickie Weeks, Martin Prado, Adrian Beltre or Brandon Phillips.

Otherwise deal Garcia, though the return won't be as hefty, and in that case what you get might not be an upgrade over what you have.

I just made fun of somebody about 20 minutes for trading prince Fielder for Phil Hughes! Hughes is on an inning count, so he may get shut down in the future. If you can get something good for him do it now!

well i've formally offered jaime garcia around the whole of the league.

firstly, i offered up the last place team a choice between either garcia for zobrist str8up, or garcia and mccann for santana and zobrist (yes, i believe in carlos santana over brian mccann. the kid is legit).

then i turned around and starting flinging crap at the wall:

garcia and alexei ramirez for jeter? ha.
garcia and jose bautista for ryan zimmerman or alex rodriguez or michael young? why not?!

maybe someone will go for it... but you've gotta build up these things cuz i've started the dialogue with 5 teams at once. basically, i'd really like a 3B because i don't trust jose bautista as far as i can throw him... if i knew he was going to end up ~35/85 or something i'd roll with it... but if i can upgrade ramirez or especially 3B i'd go for it.

see even if the trade goes down right now i'm still over 1/2 of my innings used for the season, and projected 85 over, so if phil hughes has an inning limit at, say, 180-190 IP, well then, i can factor that in to my projections over... although if he keeps getting hit and approaches 4+ ERAdom, then his value diminishes... he's the next step in this, cuz i would love to get a rock solid 3B cuz i've basically said "chone, you will not suck as much as you've sucked thus far and you'll steal me ~40 bases if you don't have one of your annual injuries" and i'm also really dependant on brett gardner to come back and keep playing well... otherwise, barring a complete crapout by garrett jones and/or jay bruce, i should be solid if i can ensure i get another ~15/40+ out of the 3B position and keep a couple'a steals guys.

i wouldn't mind carlos santana either. it wouldn't surprise me if the kid is the best hitting catcher in baseball since he was called up.

thx for the opinons i shall keep doing my thing and hopefully getting more takes on this.

why?

don't get me wrong, i mean i'll putz around and answer 30 threads like i know my excrement but this one is perplexing cuz my team, save felix hernandez, is loaded with a bunch of guys who haven't put together a full season of excellence yet, so they're all remarkably similar in terms of do i try and sell high or get on some journey DOOOONNN'T STOP BEEEEEEEELIEVINGGGGG

i think romero is pretty much legit insomuchas if you get into the metrics of it all he's improved on just about all of his ratios and doesn't have an egregious BABIP one way or another, and i think what we're seeing is the 6th pick in the 05 draft stepping up and being a man. i mean, he's kind of somewhat on pace with felix hernandez thus far, as they both have 6 wins 100+K, tho felix is like 3.04/1.14 and ricky is 2.83/1.23 or something.

granted, last year ricky did start ascending to 4.30/1.50dom and even though he was getting wins, yeah, it was a bit of a rough go. but lest we forget he missed time in may wiht an oblique strain and well, he had never been up and pitching in the majors all year.

but that's the beauty of this team and hence this thread... i've got a bunch of young kids pitching their asses off for the first time, so who knows... i think all of them have the stuff and the pedigree to basically ensure that they won't fall to crap, and save garcia this isn't their first go-around in the big show... so it'll be interesting to see.

I foresee a slight dip in Romero's performance post ASB. Trade him high for a decent closer (30 saves guy) and try to get a buy low slugger along with him (target a guy who has a lot of younger upside guys and lower quality pitching for maximum output!). If hughes is on a lower pitch count, that could only help you with this IP limited scenario.

Tough call for ya. I think I'd try and trade J.Garcia while you still can. Get something for him, maybe not as much as you'd hope for, but something useful in return.
Or, package him up with R.Romero and get some help with you infield. I don't think Jose Batista is going to be worth a whole lot in the 2nd half of the season, so a replacement there might be something to think about as well. Looks like you've got a pretty solid team though, all in all.
