12 team AL-only keeper league, auction draft, max 7 keepers per year, 5x5 Roto scoring, standard positions (2 catchers, 1 1B, 1 3B, 1 CI, 1 2B, 1 SS, 1 MI, 1 MI, 5 OF, 1 Utility, 9 pitchers), no reserve list
You have to make a decision on keepers as they enter year 3 of their contract. Options are (1) keep at current salary and contract ends after three years, (2) extend contract to 4 years, but increase salary by $5 for yr. 3 and yr. 4, or (3) extend contract to five years, but increase salary by $10 for yrs. 3, 4 and 5. If you extend a contract, you are stuck with the contract. In other words, if I extend a player to a four year contract, I have to either keep him or eat his salary (unless he is traded to the NL or retires).
I am not posting rosters because I am non-competitive this year, so it is strictly a question of what keepers I prefer.
Proposed trade is
Travis Snider -- $8, currently yr. 2, so I would have to extend next year and increase salary, or keep at $8 and lose him after next year.
Brignac -- $1, yr. 1
two irrelevant scrubs
for
Pavano --$9, yr. 1
Borbon -- $14, yr. 2 (same contract situation as Snider)
E. Santana -- $12, yr. 1
one irrelevant scrub
Realistically, if I refuse the trade, I would have room to keep only two of the three of Pavano, Borbon and Santana.
I am thinking that this is a no because Brignac and Snider are too speculative and Brignac may never hit LHP, but curious if others have a different view.
