FYI.

"Volquez (elbow) threw five innings for Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday as he continued his rehab assignment, allowing one run on three hits and no walks, the Reds' official site reports.

Spin: Volquez topped out at 98 mph and didn't walk a batter despite throwing first-pitch strikes to only 9 of the 19 batters he faced. He remains on schedule to return on July 7."

The latest info on Volquez from MLB dotcom has him coming up just after the All-Star break and not on the 7th. Whatever the case is, he's an intriguing guy to add if you can. I just grabbed him and stashed him away on my DL this morning with Billingsley coming off in time to pitch on Monday.

He is certainly an interesting pickup if you have the room. His velocity is there (hit 98 in his last outing). If his control is OK he should put up decent 2nd half numbers.

Control is usually the last thing to come back from TJ surgery so don't expect too much. But he should still be a solid starter the rest of the way

Volquez is not worth it. Leake and Wood have been solid and Volquez will get Ks, ERs, and losses. Let this one slide by. TJ surgery is the real deal. Wait until he proves it on the pitch.

I disagree. I think Volquez is going to be a real boost for fantasy teams in the 2nd half. Cincy is looking good, the offence will back any of their starters on the mound.

I'm assuming he will start on his Saturday's return, and not simply just come back to the team? If so, which brave Volquez owners are going to throw him out there!? I think I am!!

I dropped Jason Hammel to pick him up. I think it was a fine move. I'm not expecting too much, but I think he'll end up with better numbers than Hammel for the 2nd half, so it's definitely a roster upgrade.
(In reference to an Aaron Hill for David Price swap)

his starts after the rockies on saturday are basically all AAA teams anyways. He's certainly worth a shot.

If anyone had any doubts whether Volquez was ready to come back or not, and if he'd make an immediate impact in fantasy or not, doubt no more.

He was nothing short of super vs. COL on Sat.
