Haha - I bought two large rolls several years ago - still sitting in the attic. When we moved in, the air conditioning was on ALL the time. Checked the insulation - wowzers - incredibly low. Anywhere from almost none to maybe 6 inches blown in. Ended up putting in R40 everywhere. At the time when I bought the stuff, I came across the radiant barrier stuff and thought it'd be a good idea to put it in as well. However, the insulation I put in has done so well that this project sort of went on the backburner.
My understanding is if your house is located in a very sunny, not shaded part of the country, this stuff really works well...

Yeah - attempted to even it out as best as I could w/o creating a massive dust cloud. If it's not wet/degrading or whatever it's fine to just lay the new stuff over it.

Good to know. I'm probably going to be doing this this summer.

Zoinks - you sure you wouldn't rather wait for cooler weather? I live here in Alabama, if I tried doing it during the summer, I'd literally melt in under 2 minutes...
Also, do make sure you cover every possible skin cell. Got a bit on me several times and that crap is itchy!

Yeah I've done my share of insulating before when my buddy vaulted his ceilings, it is easily one of the worst things I've ever done.
I live in Oregon so I don't have to worry about the melting.

I'm with you, man. No attic in the summer. It's like 120 up there or something stupid.

And I go in wearing full-on MOPP4 gear.
In all seriousness that's not a bad idea. I remember I wore pants, long sleeves and gloves, a dust mask and goggles, and that crap still made my face and neck itch something fierce. it even got in my gloves a little and up my sleeves some.
