Just glanced at his stats because he is coming off the DL today:
10 HRs (Top 25 amongst OFs) 34 RBIs (Top 35 amongst OFs) 7 SBs (Top 35 amongst OFs) 1.134 OPS (Best in the majors, >100 PAs) .469 wOBA (Best in the majors, >100 PAs)
The catch is that he's only had 126 plate appearances this year. Ergo, he's been hitting at an ungodly pace while healthy. He's outproduced a handful of huge names (Holliday, Soriano, Manny) in major categories. I think 2 DLs stints will mend his hamstring issues and he can be healthy for the rest of the year, though this is his major sticking point from here out.
Because he's played so little, I think he's somehow flown under the radar. But no longer. Keep an eye on him.
Nelson Cruz isn't even the best OF on his team, let alone all of MLB. Josh Hamilton has been playing better than his 2008 self. Cruz's power/speed combo are nice, but I'm afraid his average will never be ~.300+ over a full season.
Nelson Cruz is good for 2 more stints on the DL. He cannot be counted apon, you have high hopes and you are dillusional. I drafted him last year and I have owned him ever since so I know what to expect.
With Cruz, it's just a question of whether he can stay off of the DL. If he does, he probably will be a top-10 OF for the rest of the season. If not, you get what you've gotten so far. Great stats, interrupted by month-long stints on the DL.
When both are healthy, though, I'll take a hot-hitting Cruz over a hot-hitting Hamilton every time.

Um... are you sure about that? Josh Hamilton is unconscionable right now.

Yep.
The key words are "when healthy."
