Which of these players are realistic acquistions? (WHIR)

Postby Santana4Cy » Tue Jun 22, 2010 4:02 am

Long story short, 10 team 5x5 roto league that I am sitting in a tie for 1st in right now.

Starting lineups are: C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, CI, MI, 5 OF, 2 U, 9 P

I currently have both Colby Lewis and Ted Lilly sitting on the bench without too much hope of cracking the lineup anymore.

I am trying to acquire another bat and/or closer. I have come up with a list of players from each team that I think are at least semi-attainable. This is a keeper league where each team keeps 8 players. Here is the list I have come up with:

Hitters
Torii Hunter (on 9th place team)
Manny Ramirez (on 9th place team)
Vladimir Guerrero (on 5th place team)
Derrek Lee (on 6th place team)
Adam Dunn (on 7th place team)
Shin-Soo Choo (on 7th place team)
Adrian Beltre (on 4th place team)
Aubrey Huff (on 4th place team)
Corey Hart (on t-1st place team; highly unlikely)
Vernon Wells (on t-1st place team; highly unlikely)
Paul Konerko (on 8th place team)
Carlos Lee (on 8th place team)
Marlon Byrd (on last place team)
David Ortiz (on last place team)
Jason Kubel (on last place team)

Closers
Andrew Bailey (on 9th place team)
Leo Nunez (on 9th place team)
Francisco Rodriguez (on 9th place team)
Matt Capps (on 5th place team)
Jon Rauch (on 5th place team)
Joakim Soria (on 5th place team)
Heath Bell (on 3rd place team)
Carlos Marmol (on 4th place team)
Jose Valverde (on t-1st place team; highly unlikely)
Francisco Cordero (on 8th place team)
Billy Wagner (on 8th place team)
Ryan Franklin (on last place team)
Rafael Soriano (on last place team)

This is what my team currently looks like:

C: Joe Mauer
1B: Justin Smoak
2B: Placido Polanco
3B: Scott Rolen
SS: Stephen Drew
MI: Martin Prado
CI: Ty Wigginton
OF: Hunter Pence, Alex Rios, Denard Span, B.J. Upton, Justin Upton
U: Michael Bourn, Kevin Kouzmanoff
BN: Brian Roberts, Jorge Cantu (usually starts but sitting during current slump), Cliff Pennington

P: Jonathan Broxton, Matt Cain, Phil Hughes, Bobby Jenks, Cliff Lee, Matt Lindstrom, Ricky Romero, Stephen Strasburg, Brian Wilson
BN: Joba Chamberlain, Wade Davis, Jorge De La Rosa, Doug Fister, Livan Hernandez, Colby Lewis, Ted Lilly, Pedro Martinez, Hisanori Takahashi

*I just acquired Broxton, Lindstrom and Wilson, so my deficit in saves is still fairly substantial, but I think I could make it up by acquiring another closer.

MiL (usually 5-man system): Mat Gamel, Madison Bumgarner [I already moved up Smoak and Strasburg and dealt Dominic Brown in a deal earlier]

If you need anymore information, let me know. I will gladly provide.

I would take a stab at Adam Dunn. He's quietly (at least in my circles) been playing very well this year. I think Smoak is a buy and hold type of player at this point and not a guy I'd want starting. He's got the power but will kill you at AVG at least for this year. I feel the same way about Cantu. Overall, I think you need some depth and quality in the infield.

One of my trade questions if you want to lend an opinion:

I'd certainly try for a corner inf first, maybe include Polanco
